TLI21315 Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure Pre Training Information V1.03
Following the core units you need to specialise in a stream. We currently offer the two streams
listed below:
Stream A – Track Work Stream C – Track Surfacing
TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals TLIB1093 Clean equipment and worksite
TLIB2092 Operate minor mechanical equipment TLIB2001 Check and assess operational capabilities of equipment
TLIS2030 Carry out track ballasting TLIB2085 Apply track fundamentals
TLIS2031 Install railway sleepers TLIB2091 Measure and record track geometry
TLIS2034 Install and repair rail fastening systems TLIS2030 Carry out track ballasting
TLIS2044 Carry our rail installation TLIC2058 Travel medium or heavy self-propelled on-track
equipment OR
TLIC2059 Propel and operate light on-track equipment
To complete your qualification, you need to complete 16 units of competency. After completing the
core and a stream you will have completed 13 units. To make up the other 3 you need to choose
some electives. Currently we offer the follow electives that you can choose from:
TLIG1001 Work effectively with others TLIB2097 Install and maintain rail guards
TLIK2010 Use info-technology devices in the TLIB2121 Maintain rail joints
workplace TLIF2062 Apply awareness of safe working rules and
TLIB1093 Clean equipment and restore worksite regulations
TLIW2001 Operate under track protection rules
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this course at the time of publication.

How long does it take?
This course will take you 700 hours to complete including on the job experience.
Will I need to undertake Work Placement?
Yes. This qualification requires practical experience on the worksite. We have a logbook to help you
complete the necessary experience against each unit of competency. As you progress along the
logbook is signed by your supervisor and once completed you come back to use for further
assessment.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy
Where a student is deemed, either prior to enrolment or throughout the training program, to
possess a lower level of language, literacy or numeracy than is the minimum requirement for the
requirements of the course, Go-Train Industry Pty Ltd will provide appropriate advice and support to
the student regarding further learning options. At times, further language or literacy development or
remedial assistance may be required to be completed prior to the continuation or completion of the

What will you get when you complete?
For any units that you successfully complete during the course you will receive a nationally
recognised Statement of Attainment from the Transport & Logistics Industry Training Package. If you
complete all the units, you will receive a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure – TLI21315 that will be
recognised nationwide.
What Next?
Before Training
1. Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number. From January 2015, the Australian Government
implemented that all students participating in nationally recognised training need to have a USI.
Your USI gives you access to an online record of your training that has been completed since
January 2015. You will be able to access these results throughout your life. Students who do not
currently have a USI must obtain one before attending training at Go-Train Industry. Please visit
www.usi.gov.au to obtain your USI. We need you to provide us with your USI number as we
cannot issue your certificate until the USI number is received.
2. To secure your spot in the course you need to enrol and pay for your course prior to
commencement of training, please contact us to organise this.
3. Do you think you could apply for RPL or Credit Transfer? If so, please refer to our website for what
to do next.
4. If you find you are unable to attend, can you please contact us within 48 hours of the scheduled
training. If you provide less than 48 hours’ notice of cancellation, we are unable to refund any
monies paid.
On the day of training we need you to
1. Bring Photo ID - Preferably a driver’s licence or passport.
2. Students must wear covered in shoes. Please note that we have a NO THONGS policy and
students will be sent home unless the correct footwear is worn.
3. Course must already be paid in full
At the course
1. When you attend the training, you will be asked to sign a Training Attendance Sheet. Signing the
attendance sheet is an acknowledgement that you have read and understood this Pre-Training
Information prior to attending the course.
2. This course will be delivered in a classroom environment by a qualified and experienced Rail
Trainer.
3. All learning materials will be provided to you.
4. You will be required to complete written and practical assessments for this course – practical
assessments take place in a simulated work environment.
After Training
1. Following the successful completion of the training, you will be given a logbook to complete prior
to undertaking your final assessments – the logbook gathers your work experience in each of the
units. You should perform all relevant tasks and procedures as often as possible across the full
range of relevant conditions - for example, during daylight and at night, in different weather
conditions, in different geographical locations and terrain, with different equipment.
2. Once you have completed the logbook you can then book in to complete further training and
assessment. To do this please contact our office on 02 4355 4595.

To ensure you leave us with the most up to date qualification
If during or after your enrolment, the course in which you are enrolled is updated in line with
national industry standards, we reserve the right to transition you into an alternate course. If this
becomes necessary, we will advise you of the change and the arrangements which will be available
for you to complete your alternate course

Training Plan
Day Unit Description Assessments
Day 1 TLIF2080 This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to enter the rail corridor. Written Assessment

People achieving competence in this unit will need to fulfil the applicable state/territory legislated
rail safety requirements and to comply with relevant codes of practice, rules and/or guidelines.
This unit involves the application of Rail Infrastructure Manager rules, procedures and protocols for
rail safety.
This unit applies to all people accessing the rail corridor.
Day 2 TLIB1028 This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to maintain and use hand tools in accordance Written Assessment

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to apply chosen
fundamentals of track maintenance and construction, and to
carry out basic track measurement, in accordance with
approved rail industry standards, safeworking and regulatory
requirements, and workplace procedures.
It includes identifying track terminology, track components
and track tools and equipment; and undertaking basic track
measurement.
