Sister act 2: Back in the habit

I. Answer Briefly
1. What was the conflict faced by these characters in the movie? (10 pts. Each)
A. Sister Mary Clarence
She becomes a famous performer in Las Vegas. During her latest performance, she was reunited with her nun friends as they need her help
as her school alumni (St. Francis Academy) is facing closure unless the school’s reputation improves. Furthermore, the time she was
teaching the students, she had a hard time as the students have behavioral problems and believes that there’s no purpose for going to
school…

B. Father Maurice
He was the school principal of St. Francis Academy. The school was facing closure as funding for the school was inefficient and not enough
for the school to continue unless the school’s performance improves.

C. Rita Wilson
She was the ringleader of the class. At first, she disliked sister Mary clarence; Later on, upon her mother knowing that she’ll need her
consent for her to join the contest in los Angeles, her mother didn’t gave her consent as if she continues doing this, she’ll end up like her
father who died trying making a name for himself.

2. How did they resolve it? (10 pts. Each) (A-c.)

A. Sister Mary clarence saw each one’s potential and decided to form them into a choir which, at first, they all reluctantly disapprove.
They tried working it out and tried joining a contest, in which, they won. It marked the start of their success and decided to join the
contest in Los Angeles; In the end, they won and it helped their school gain a good reputation thus fixing the problem faced by the
school and its students thanks to the help of sister Mary Clarence.

B. Father Maurice accepted sister Mary clarence’s proposal of letting the St. Francis Academy choir join the singing competition as this
might be their way out of restoring the school’s reputation to stop it from shutting down. Later on, the choir won the contest in
which, the school’s diocese was impressed of their performance, agreed to keep the school open and promoted Mr. Crisp, a promotion
with the reverend mother claiming that it was his idea for the choir to begin with.

C. Hearing her friends singing in a choir, Rita decided to join the group again and brought sister Mary clarence’s attention as she had a
talent in singing and was advised to continue practicing as she needs to maintain her voice for their contest in Los Angeles; knowing
that her mother didn’t gave her consent to let her join the contest, she merged her mother’s signature so that she will receive
admittance to the contest. But before leaving, she wrote a letter for her mother saying that she wants to join this singing
competition to achieve her dreams of becoming a singer, which her mother clearly disliked. Later on, she forgave Rita as she was
proud of her daughter’s performance and she will now on, support her on what she wants to be in her life (to be a singer).

3. Explain the quote in the movie “If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better
wake up and pay attention.” (20 pts.)
To become who you want to be in the future, you have to exert determination and willingness of the goal you want to achieve your life. You
can’t be the person you want to be if you don’t do anything and just take opportunities for granted. You have to let yourself believe that
you are worthy of what you want to be. Show your greatest effort in order to be someone you want to be.
