PREPARED, ADVANCED TRAUMA CENTRES AT GMC AMRITSAR AND PATIALA

The draft of the four-year strategic plan of the
Department of Medical Education and Research, Punjab
was discussed at length in a meeting held on Thursday
at the camp o ce of Medical Education Minister, Mr.
OP Soni.
Deliberations were held at length upon the projects and
infrastructure required in near future, their feasibility
and their operation and maintenance requirements,
informed Mr. Soni. He said that the focus of the
strategic plan would be on strengthening the
infrastructure of the medical colleges and the hospitals
and equipping them with the state of art machinery/
equipment.

STATE CANCER INSTITUTE, Plan
RADIOTHERAPY AND NUCLEAR includes
MEDICINE BLOCKS  IN GMC major
AMRITSAR, ESTABLISHING BURN UNIT projects like
AT GMC PATIALA, NEW LIQUID OXYGEN
PLANT AT GURU NANAK DEV HOSPITAL,
AMRITSAR

development of Advanced Trauma Centres at Government Medical College(GMC)  Amritsar and Patiala ,setting up of Mother and Child Care units at
Faridkot, Cancer Institute, Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine Block   in GMC Amritsar,  Construction of New Pulmonary Health Care Centre in TB
Hospital, Burn unit in GMC Patiala, New Liquid Oxygen Plant for Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar,construction of hostels for Senior Residents/
faculty and students, upgrading blood banks and operation theaters and equipping the Government Medical Hospitals with state of art equipment.
Besides, the requirements of Dental and Ayurvedic Colleges have also been incorporated in the plan, said he.
He said that the yearly targets and budget for the same has been worked out so that the projects may not face any nancial hiccup. Once the draft of
the strategic plan is nalized, it will be submitted to the department of Planning Punjab and thereafter to the Finance Department for requisite budget
provision in the ensuing scal, said Soni.
The Minister exhorted the heads of medical colleges and hospitals to work proactively for the strengthening their institutions and also directed them
to ensure that all the funds allotted for the ongoing projects are utilized and subsequent Utilization Certi cates are submitted to the treasury so that
further in ow of funds is not interrupted. He said that non-utilization of funds by an institution re ects the poor administration by the head of the
institution and will not be tolerated upon as colleges and hospitals are meant for welfare of public. He said that hampering of developmental projects
due to short sightedness or the laxity of the heads of will invite stern action. 

The inputs for the four-year strategic plan of the Department of Medical Education and Research were given by the Dr Raj bahadur Vice Chancellor of
Baba Farid University Of Health Sciences , Dr BK Kaushik, Vice Chancellor Of Guru Ravidas   Ayurvedic University, Mr DK Tiwari, Principal Secretary
Department Of Medical Education, Dr Avnish Kumar, Director Medical Education and Research, Principal Medical College Amritsar and Patiala, Dr
Sujata Sharma and Dr Harvinder Singh respectively, Medical Superintendent Patiala Dr Ashwani Kumar, Medical Superintendent Amritsar Dr J S Kolar
and representatives of Government Dental and Ayurvedic Colleges.
