GasStop Gas Migration Control Additive
GasStop Gas Migration Control Additive
GasStop
• Can control gas migration in wells from 60°F to 230°F
with gas flow potential from 2 to 7
• Can fluidize saturated salt slurries at 80°F
by controlling salt gelation
• Can provide excellent fluid loss
control from 60°F to 230°F
• Works effectively in fresh water or
in salt slurries of all concentrations
• Has been exhaustively field tested and proven under
the most challenging conditions

Case History — Offshore Louisiana
The Problem: The Eugene Island area in the Gulf of
Mexico is notorious for its severe gas migration problems.
Shallow gas hazards and very high formation permeabilities
contribute to the situation, resulting in occasional blowouts.
A major operator in the area encountered a gas flow
problem while running a 7-in. liner from 10,800- to
13,100-ft. Casing above the liner was 9-5/8 in. Gas
was entering at 12,500 ft with a pore pressure of 16.3 parts
per gallon (ppg).
The Solution: Halliburton recommended a slurry consisting
of premium cement, Oklahoma No. 1 sand, GasStop
additive, CFR-3™ dispersant, D-Air 1™ antifoam agent and
HR-5 retarder. Following the job, gas flow at the liner top

Wide-Ranging Compatibility Benefits of Better Gas Migration Control
GasStop additive is compatible with all commonly used Better gas migration control can mean:
dispersants, weighting agents, lightweight additives, silica,
• Greater cement integrity and improved zonal isolation
water-control materials, retarders and suspending aids.
When SA-541™ suspension aid is used with GasStop • Reduced expenses for remedial squeeze cementing
additive, gels can develop that are strong enough to interfere
• Less chance of damaging tubulars
with gas control in delayed-gel slurries.
• Lower risk of subsurface blowouts

Halliburton GasStop additive significantly delays gel strength development. This allows the
cement column to transmit virtually the full hydrostatic pressure, while compensating for volume
decreases due to fluid loss.
Get the protection you need with Halliburton GasStop additive, the right choice for controlling
gas migration in wells from 60°F to 230°F, with gas flow potential from 2 to 7.
