METHOD STATEMENT FOR TERRACE WATER PROOFING CUM INSULATION WORKS

1. Scope:

This Method statement describes the broad sequence and execution methodology for Waterproofing

at Terrace.

2. Activities:

The following activities will be carried out for the waterproofing of the Terrace.

 Surface preparation - construction joint treatment / crack filling, coving etc.

 Prepond test
 Leakage rectification through injection grouting using cement slurry
 Cut out Treatment.

 Applying of waterproofing system on to horizontal & vertical surface

 Ponding Test.
 Applying Spray applied PUFF Insulation on to horizontal surface.

 Applying a thin layer / one coat of acrylic coating on to puff insulation

 Laying Geotextile 300 Gsm on to horizontal surface.

 Laying brickbat coba on to horizontal surface

 Curing & Testing for minimum 14 days

 Laying China mosaic (mix colour broken Tile pieces) over brick bat coba.

 Applying primer coat for mechanical bonding on to vertical surface.

 Laying of protection Plaster 10-12mm thick in CM 1:4 on to Vertical surface
 Curing & Ponding.

Surface preparation:-
 All surfaces shall be free from oil, grease and general curing compounds.
 Concrete surfaces shall be cleaned using mechanical means by surface grinder / hand grinders

and cleaning by air jetting using air blower.

Treatment for Joints & Crack

 Crack filling / Construction joint treatment / Blow‐holes / coving shall be filled using PMM using SBR

2 /planicrete SBR (polymer modified mortar) in proportion 1:5:15, and bonding slurry mix with cement
in proportion 1:5:15.

 Minor cracks more than 1mm shall be filled with PU sealant depending on the size of crack. (Surface
crack not be treated).

Prepond test for leakage checking:-

 Fill the water minimum 50mm water for minimum 72:00 hrs for leakage / ponding test.

Leakage rectification through injection grouting using cement slurry.

 Leakage rectification through injection grouting using cement slurry Admix with non shrink grout

Cebex 100

 Fixing of PVC Injection Nozzle/ Pipe.

 Injecting cement slurry admixed with Cebex 100 / Non shrink compound

Treatment to the cut outs for pipe penetrations:-

 Any pipe penetrations of cut outs for services must be made watertight or sealed with use of PU

sealant paste and confined between layers of repair mortar / Micro concrete.

The residual moisture content of the substrate must not exceed 4 % (check with Moisture meter).
Primer application :-
 The residual moisture content of the substrate must not exceed 4 %
 (Primer application over the concrete shall be done using Silcor primer BS / Smart care epoxy

primer Apply a Single coat of Silcor primer BS / Smart care epoxy primer to the prepared

substrate by spreading with a squeegee at the rate of 0.10 kg/m² and finished with brush/ roller.
Allow to cure for at least 6:00 hours.

Waterproofing membranes Horizontal & Vertical surface :-

 Silcor 560 /Smartcare PU Magnum- liquid applied polyurethane based, single component, low
VOC, elastomeric, seamless waterproofing membrane
 Ensure surface for application is dry, free from dust, debris and all other contaminants which may

inhibit adhesion between the membrane and concrete. Applying Silcor 560/ Smartcare PU
Magnum (waterproofing membrane) in two coat using brush / Roller over the “tack free” primer at

coverage of 2.25- 2.35 kg/m2 to achieve a uniform membrane. Allow the membrane to cure for 7
days (air cure) prior to subsequent topping / further layer.

Repair Methodology:-
 Treatment to damages, bubbles formation at site if it will be happened during application, PU

membrane which will rectify by cutting PU layer, cleaning the surface under rectification using

emery paper, solvent (thinner) then have to do touch up with epoxy primer over it, then apply the
PU coating Silcor 560 / Smartcare PU Magnum with a minimum overlap of 50 mm over the old

waterproofing layer and shall be done to ensure monolithic waterproofing system.

Water ponding test for leakage checking:-

560 / Smartcare PU Magnum.

Spray applied PUFF Insulation on to horizontal surface.

 The residual moisture content of the substrate must not exceed 4 %

 Spraying Smartcare PU insulator ‐ Two component polyurethane resin (PUR) based foam that is
applied with a Two component spray Machine. Coverage approx 2kg per Sqm , Average
Thickness 35 mm, Thickness variation may take place depends on wind velocity & ambient

temperature.

Acrylic coating on to puff insulation.

 Applying Damproof – acrylic coating of one coat to be applied on to puff insulation, Coverage @

0.3 Ltr / per sqm.

Separation layer on Horizontal Surface:-

 Laying Separation layer of Geo textile 300 GSM on to waterproofing coating to prevent it from

mechanical damage.

Brickbat coba on to horizontal surface.

 Laying brick bat coba average thickness 110 mm in cement mortar 1:5 admixed with integral

waterproofing compound on to horizontal surface

 The brickbat shall be cured by ponding for a minimum of 14 days.

China mosaic (mix colour broken Tile pieces) over brick bat coba.

 Laying China mosaic (mix colour broken Tile pieces) over brick bat coba.
 The china mosaic shall be cured by ponding for a minimum of 7 days.

Protection Layer on Vertical Surface : -

Primer coat for mechanical bonding to receive plaster
 Applying primer coat of Silcor primer BS / Smart care epoxy primer – on to waterproofing coating
, Coverage @ 0.10 Kg per sqm along with sprinkling of Quartz Sand , Coverage @ 0.5 – 0.80

Kg per sqm to received mechanical bonding to Protection Plaster . (Note: On vertical plaster
:Plaster may get crack on primed surface with quartz sand.)

 Laying protective Plaster Average 10- 12mm thick to the wall in cement mortar (1:4) including
mixing integral waterproofing compound (100ml per bag of cement).
Curing

 Curing for minimum 7 days.
