MANILA -- Actor Joem Bascon and vloger Crisha Uy

have called it quits after more than eight years of
being in a relationship.

Bascon made the revelation to members of

entertainment media on Tuesday at an acoustic live
session for TBA Studios' "Write About Love" with
co-star Yeng Constantino.

"Hanggang doon na lang siya. Kapag pinilit pa, on

my side siguro mas magiging magulo. So I guess
hanggang doon ko lang talaga kaya," Bascon said.

Despite the failed relationship, Bascon is hoping

that he and Uy could still be friends.

"I'm hoping na maging friends kasi maayos naman

'yung pag-uusap. Pero wala naman kasing
hiwalayan na hindi masakit. So masakit pa rin for
both of us. Siguro lang ngayon, nakakausap niyo
ako ng maayos kasi I'm busy with work. Sobrang
busy ko na marami akong kasamang tao. Talagang
dina-drown ko 'yung sarili ko with trabaho and
friends para lang hindi ko maiisip masyado 'yung
nangyari," said Bascon, who earlier shared his plans
of marrying Uy.

"At least ngayon ito 'yung nangyari kasi kung

pinatagal ko or natuloy 'yung mga plano with
everything siguro mas mahihirapan kami at lalo
pang masakit," he added.

Asked who initiated the breakup, Bascon said: "It's a

mutual thing na nag-usap na kami pero kailangan ko
aminin sa lahat din para 'di na rin maging tanong, it
came from me talaga. Hanggang doon na lang po.
Mayroon lang po siguro problema ako with myself,
personal na hinahanap ko sa sarili ko. I guess I really
had to decide kaysa masaktan ko pa lalo ang tao."

"Walang third party, all on me," stressed Bascon,

who is looking forward to spend his Christmas with
his family.

MMFF ENTRY

Meanwhile, Bascon is excited over his 2019 Metro

Manila Film Festival film entry "Write About Love"
with Yeng Constantino as his leading lady.

About Love'

"I'm looking forwad to this coming MMFF for 'Write

About Love' na mapapanood niyo 'yung
pinaghirapan namin ng TBA Studios. Siyempre
nagkagulatan kami na napili for MMFF ang 'Write
About Love.' Natapos na namin ito parang start pa
lang of the year, tapos pinasa na lang nila. We are
just really excited and honored to be part of this
MMFF," said Bascon, who also enjoyed working with
Constantino.

"It's my first time working with Yeng and she's very

honest, humble, sensitive. As an actor, kasi first
time namin mag-work napaka-giving niya. Sobrang
sweet sa set," Bascon shared.

"What so special about it sa lahat kasi nang ginawa

ko, this is my first time doing a love story na may
partner ako. First time doing a love story with Yeng.
First time na parang one of the main leads kasi 'di
ba lagi akong napa-part ng support. I'm happy to be
part of a big ensemble, tapos pasok pa sa MMFF,"
he added.

Also part of the film are Miles Ocampo and Rocco

Nacino.

Directed by Crisanto Aquino and produced by TBA

Studios, "Write About Love" will hit cinemas
nationwide on Christmas Day, December 25.

MANILA - (UPDATE) The Senate ratified on

Wednesday a bill that will tax electronic cigarettes
and impose higher duties on alcohol to raise P22.2
billion on its first year of implementation.

The Senate passed the measure on its last session

day in 2019, hours after a bicameral conference
reconciled the two chambers' versions of the bill.

The approved version, which was closer to the

P24.7-billion revenue projection in the Senate draft
compared to P16 billion in the House bill, was
originally supposed to raise P27.4 billion. But this
was reduced by P5.2 billion after some prescription
drugs were exempted from value-added tax, based
on data from Senator Pia Cayetano’s office.

"As a health advocate, I cannot deny that I am not

satisfied... As a revenue measure, I had also hoped
na sana mas mataas," said Cayetano, chairman of
the Senate tax-writing committee.

"The figures we have are what they are and they will
go a long way because nakadagdag tayo at yun ang
importante (we will be able to raise more, that's
what's important)," she said.

The Department of Finance had hoped higher sin

taxes would help close a P59.1-billion funding gap
for the implementation of the Universal Health Care
Law.

The measure, once ratified by the House, will be

submitted for President Rodrigo Duterte's
signature for it to become a law.

Under the approved rates, all bottles of wine will be

taxed an additional P50 tax, while the following
alcoholic beverages will be taxed as follows:

DISTILLED SPIRITS
2020 - P42 + 22 pct ad valorem tax
2021 - P47 + 22 pct ad valorem tax
2022 - P52 + 22 pct ad valorem tax

FERMENTED LIQUOR
2020 - P35
2021 - P37
2022 - P39

Electronic cigarettes will be taxed as follows:

HEATED TOBACCO PRODUCTS

2020 - P25
2021 - P27.50
2022 - P30
2023 - P32.50

2021 - P50

Sixty percent of the fund will be allocated for the

government's Universal Health Care program, 20
percent for the improvement of public health
facilities, and 20 percent for projects that would
help the country meet its sustainable development
goals.
