In KKK, Kataastaasang Kolehiyo laban sa Kadiliman, five (5) teachers are discussing about their different
approaches in teaching. Teacher Paul is a great fan of Aristotle and Plato’s belief system that education
should be everlasting information given to the students to stimulate thought provoking discussions. He
urges his students to read the Great Books, works by history’s finest thinkers and writers, so that they
could develop their understanding of the concepts about human knowledge. Teacher Edward believes in
a teacher-centered philosophy that adheres to the belief that the basic skills of literacy and numeracy as
well as subject-matter knowledge should be developed in schools. Teacher Peter belongs to a reform
movement that deviates away from the traditional education. He believes that the best way to learn is
by actively exploring/or by engaging in direct experiences and that education moves students forward
towards the challenges of today and the future. Teacher Sarah content that education should prepare
the students to meet the demands of society. She always give students real-world problems and ask
students to solve these issues. Last but not the least, Edgar asserts that the purpose of education is to
help students find meaning and directions in their lives. He often give situations to students that
encourage them to develop their own ideas, choose for themselves and assume personal responsibilities
for those choices.
