ABSTRACT

Ethnobotany is the systematic study of the relationships between plants and people . It
provides information regarding the traditional uses of plant wealth which can be utilised in
integrated tribal development. The ethnobotanical studies throw light on certain unknown
plants useful plants and new uses of many known plants which can be exploited for
developing new sources for some plant products and agro based industries. In the year 2014
to 2016 conducted field trips and explorations on ethno -botanical plants in Adoni division,
Kurnool district. In the month of June, July and August extensive field work was carried out
Nearly 70 plants were identified in the two years project work, information was collected and
their medicinal uses were recorded. Plants samples were collected. Leaves were shade dried
for extraction of secondary metabolites .Soxhletextraction was conducted to identify
phytochemicals. Laboratory work was done in the year2014-2016. Twenty five selected
medicinal plants were subjected to screening of secondary metabolites.

Phytochemical analysis helps to understand the theraupautic property. The quality of

compounds present in species helps in solving systematic problems on one hand and
exploration of new pharmaceuticals and other .In the present investigation 25 palnts were
subjected to screening of secondary metabollites. They have been identified naturally
occurring substances do not seem to be vital to the immediate survival of the organism
.Secondary metabolites have broad range of applications in pharmaceutical ,chemical and
food industry. The main classes of secondary metabolites have biological propertires, phenols
and polyphenols, oils, alkaloids, lectins, saponnins, lignins and polypeptides. Results reveal
metabolites like alkaloids,glycosides,cumarins,flavonoids,flavons,tannins,phenols,terpiniods
rich in all the tested palnts ,anthroquinones, phenols and oils are less found in tested species.
The medicinal plants appear to be rich in secondary metabolities widely used in traditional
medicine to combat and cure various ailments.
