Oral Interaction 16 A

Compare the best city you’ve ever been to with that of your partner’s: cultural activities,
weather, food, people, etc. Find out similarities and differences. Try to interact as much
as possible and avoid monologues.

Duration: 3 or 4 minutes.

A- Hello! How long has it been since we don’t see each other?
B- Hi! I don’t know… too much for sure.
A- I didn’t see you last summer and that was weird… you are usually around here
during the holidays.
B- Me and my wife were in Barcelona most of the time. We were looking forward to
knowing the city.
A- That’s fantastic! Did you enjoy it?
B- Totally... Best town I’ve ever been to.
A- I stayed here all the holidays because I spent all the money in the spring when I
went to Seville. That is the best trip I’ve ever gone on.
B- Really? I was impressed when I arrived to Barcelona. Everybody was very nice.
A- Did they treat you well? They have their own language…
B- I expected people to talk to me speaking Catalan, but most of them used
Spanish and were very polite.
A- I’m surprised.
B- It’s just a common prejudice here in Madrid.
A- In Seville people were very, very happy. I had a great time there. The party
never ended.
B- So that is true! Seville is fun…It’s the same as Barcelona, as I can see.
A- Yes. It was this place…The “Alameda de Hércules”, where there are a lot of
pubs and nightclubs to have a good time.
B- Well, we mostly did sightseeing. We didn’t go to parties.
A- If you went all summer, you saw a lot of things for sure.
B- Of course. My favourites were the Barceloneta beach, where you can relax
laying on the sand, Gaudí’s Park Güell and “La Rambla”.
A- In Seville I went to the Giralda and the “Torre del Oro” and I loved it. You can
get very good views from the city when you are on the top of them.
B- If you went in spring, you would go to the April Fair, wouldn’t you?
A- Yes. All the people were dancing, drinking “rebujito”, which is a typical drink,
and eating. In addition, I was in Holy Week there too.
B- That had to be impressive.
A- It was indeed. Unlike Barcelona, Holy Week is very important in Seville. There
are a lot of processions and everybody gets very emotional. Fortunately, the
weather was good, so I could enjoy it.
B- In Barcelona the weather was good too. It was sunny and warm.
A- In Seville was the same. I loved drinking “gazpacho”.
B- In Barcelona I didn’t find “gazpacho”, but I really loved the “crema catalana” and
the “butifarra” from there.
A- It sounds good…I will try to go to Barcelona!
B- And I will try to go to Seville too!

Oral Interaction 17 A

Your partner and you have decided to go on a trip together next summer. Make plans
about different aspects related to that trip: destination, how to travel, cultural activities,
accommodation, duration, who to travel with, etc. Try to interact as much as possible
and avoid monologues.

Duration: 3 or 4 minutes.

A- Hi darling, do you have a minute?

B- Yes, tell me.
A- We should start planning our trip in summer. Right now, everything is cheaper.
B- I agree… but we can’t stay many days in the place because I want us to go to
the beach with mi parents. I miss them a lot.
A- I think 7 days would be fine.
B- Ok. It has to be in August. I work most of the time in July.
A- August is perfect. I thought Bilbao would be great! We have never been there.
B- Isn’t it too dark?
A- Dark?
B- Yes… the weather is always cloudy, rainy…
A- Honey, in summer you are always begging for the winter. In my opinion, Bilbao
is not that bad, and it has a lot of interesting things to visit.
B- Well, let’s buy the train tickets then.
A- Train? We’ll take a plane. If we buy the tickets in Ryanair, we’ll save money.
B- Buy the tickets now. I’m calling to a guesthouse placed in the centre of the town
this evening.
A- Is it near to the museums and cultural places?
B- Totally. We’ll go to the Guggenheim Museum and the Fine Arts Museum by
foot.
A- Then that’s the perfect inn. You know how much I love art…
B- Yes. After the museums we’ll go to the parks around there, like the “Parque
República de Abando”, which is beautiful. I’ve seen it in photos.
A- Oh, and don’t forget the San Mamés Stadium. I’m looking forward to going to a
football match there! I like the “Atlético de Bilbao” very much.
B- I’m not interested in football… I can’t stand it, as a matter of fact, and you know
it…
A- I was kidding, but I’d like to have someone to share those moments with.
Maybe we could go with Sandra and Ale.
B- No way! She’s crazy and he’s so weird…
A- Sergio and Lucía?
B- That sounds better.
A- I am going to call them this week and ask them if they want to come with us.
This is going to be a memorable trip…
B- I think so too.

Oral Interaction 18 A

Your partner is flying to Australia for business. He/she calls you from Moscow airport
and tells you his/her connecting flight was delayed 24 hours! You are worried about
that because he/she doesn´t have appropriate clothes for the Russian winter and you
would like to know what he/she is going to do to survive in that situation (food, rest,
shower, time at the airport, estimated departure and arrival time, airport facilities, etc.).
Try to interact as much as possible and avoid monologues.

Duration: 3 or 4 minutes.

A- Good morning! Were you sleeping honey?

B- Not really. I’m preparing breakfast. Where are you calling from? Weren’t you
supposed to arrive to Australia at 5 p.m?
A- Well…there has been a problem.
B- What is it?
A- Don’t be afraid. It’s just a delay. I’m in Moscow and I have to wait 24 hours to
take the plane.
B- That’s too much time! What are you going to do? You didn’t take the books I
gave you.
A- I thought I wouldn’t have time to read.
B- It was just in case! It doesn’t matter if you don’t read them finally…
A- I’ll buy a magazine.
B- Do you speak Russian?
A- Well…I’ll buy an English newspaper or a puzzle.
B- But the clothes…you are not prepared for the cold! You are going to get sick if
you keep staying there. Can’t you take another plane and come back home?
A- My boss wouldn’t like the idea, that’s for sure, so I can’t do it. The meeting in
Australia is very important.
B- Then go shopping. Get a coat, something… and a flannel pyjama!
A- There aren’t clothes shops around here and if I go out…
B- No way! You’d freeze!
A- I know it’s a difficult situation, but I’m trying to keep calm and find a solution.
B- Have you already eaten?
A- I have to look for a place yet. There is a supermarket near the airport, I see it
through the large windows, so if I can’t eat inside, I’ll go out and buy something
as fast as I can.
B- In that case, ask somebody to lend you a coat, a big one…and a warm hat!
A- Of course…
B- Have you already reserved a room in a hotel?
A- Not really…
B- And what are you waiting for?
A- I thought about sleeping on a seat here, at the airport.
B- Are you going to have a shower in the bathrooms too?
A- Well, not a shower, but I can use the water to wash myself up a little bit.
B- You are losing your mind… When do you take the plane tomorrow?
A- The plane takes off at 7 p.m and lands at Sydney at 1 a.m. Don’t worry. I will try
to stay in a hotel, but if I can’t, the airport is fine, and people is nice.
B- Ok, be careful, and advise me when you arrive to Sydney.
A- I will, I promise.
B- Have a good trip. I love you.
A- I love you too.
