Subject Teacher: Ms. Swapandeep/Ms Mamatha Sandhu/Ms.Isha Gupta
Topics Covered: DC Circuits (Series and Parallel Circuits)

1. The resistance of two wires is 25 ohm when connected in series and 6 ohm when joined in parallel.
Calculate resistance of each wire. (Ans 15,10 ohm)
2. Two resistors R1 and R2 are connected in parallel to a certain supply. The current taken from the
supply is 5A. Calculate the value of R1 if R2= 6 ohm and the current through R1 is 2A. Also find the
total power absorbed by the circuit. (R1=9 ohm, Power = 90W)
3. A 50 ohm resistor is in parallel with a 100 ohm resistor. The current in 50 ohm resistor is 7.2A. What
is the value of third resistance to be added in parallel to make the line current as 12.1A?
(R3 = 276.92 ohm)
4. A resistor of 3.6 ohm is connected in series with another of 4.56 ohms. What resistance must be
placed across 3.6 ohms so that the total resistance of the circuit shall be 6 ohm.
(R3= 2.4 ohm)
5. Three resistors R1, R2 and R3 are connected in series across a constant voltage of V volts. The voltage
drop across R1 is 40 V, the power loss in R 2 is 300W and R3 has a resistance of 5 ohm. Find the
voltage V if the current is 10A.
(Ans 120V)

6. In the circuit shown below, determine the total resistance across the supply voltage.

( Ans = 150 ohm)

7. Determine the current delivered by the source in the circuit shown in figure below:

( Ans current = 28.46A)

8. Determine the current in each resistor in the following figure using network reduction methods.

1
(Ans IT = 5A, IA = 1.667 A , IB = 3.333 A, IC = 2.5A , IE = 1.25A ID = 2.5A)

9. Two resistors 4Ω and 6Ω are connected in parallel. If the current supplied by source is 30A. Find the
current through each branch.

10. How are practical (a) voltage and (b) current sources represented?
