Thank you very much for purchasing MINI energy storage system (MINI ES) supplied by BYD Auto
Industry Company Limited. We sincerely hope that our products can meet your needs. We hope that you
can make suggestions on the performance, function and appearance of the product and we will
continually improve our products.
MINI ES is an electric energy storage system which can store and rationally distribute excessive electric
energy generated by PV (photovoltaics) in cooperation with the photovoltaic generation system. It can
enable you to use green energy as much as possible.
Application of the Manual
The manual is applicable to the MINI ES and mainly introduces the operation and functions of products.
It is applicable during the transportation, assembly, installation and commissioning of products.
Target Readers
The manual is intended to be used by operators (customers) and the accredited power engineers.
Storage of the Manual
The manual contains important information. Please read the manual carefully before operating and
maintaining MINI ES.
Please operate the system in accordance with the manual. Otherwise, it may cause damage to devices
or personnel casualty or property loss.
The manual shall be properly kept and accessible to operators and maintainers at any time.

Please keep the following several safety warning symbols in mind and understand the information and
interpretation of them before reading the manual.
The warning symbols covering safety information are shown as below:

1 Safety Requirements
1.1 Operating instructions
The operator must ensure that:
 There is no flammables and explosives stored near the device
 No nameplate is removed or no information on the nameplates is altered
 The device is uncovered at any time
 The device is not installed outdoor or in areas with direct solar radiation
 The device is not installed on the ground with casual water
 The device is not installed in bedroom or places for activities and rest by customers
 No child touches the device
 The device is unopened during operation
 The temperature of rooms the device is installed in is kept at 25℃
 The humidity of rooms the device is installed in is not greater than 95%
 The device can only be placed on a firm enough surface
 Any unclear warning and safety signage on the device must be replaced immediately
 Transportation, assembly, installation and commissioning of the device can be implemented by the
authorized professionals only
 Transportation, assembly, installation and commissioning of the device can be implemented only
under the specified conditions
 The authorized staff shall be capable of evaluating the work distributed and identify the potential
risks in advance
 Only the authorized and trained power engineers can perform the installation and commissioning,
and change the setting and connection of the device
 Any potential hazards must be identified and necessary safety measures must be taken before
installation and operation
 The debugging staff shall read and fully understood the safety instructions in the manual before
starting installation
 The software, housing and components of the device cannot be changed without the manufacturer's
approval; otherwise, the liability and warranty will be invalid
 The components cannot be opened without permission to cause damage to the seal. Otherwise, the
warranty will be invalid
 The MINI ES shall be operated in line with the user manual, installation and service manual and
quality certificate. In the event of any damage to the device caused by nonconformity with the user

manual, installation and service manual and quality certificate, the liability and warranty will be
invalid
1.2 Installation qualification
The operator must be qualified electricians in local area who have ever accepted professional product
trainings in terms of:
 Repair and removal of products
 Protection and standard maintenance of devices in accordance with the safety standards
determined.
 Offering assistance for the injured parties at the first time
 Compliance with the local regulations, standards and management

1.3 Class of pollution


 The area with the ES has the class of environmental pollution of 2
 Definitions of the class of environmental pollution 2: the ES will generate non-conductive pollutant
generally, but may generate temporary conductive pollutant occasionally due to compression.
1.4 Basic safety information
This section contains the basic safety instructions. Failure to observe the basic safety instructions in the
manual can result in electrical accidents, and serious injury or death, as well as serious damages.
 General risk of fatal injury

A second person can Switch off the power supply and provide
assistance in an accident.

DANGER!
Risk of fatal injury due to residual voltage
The capacitors of inverter may still has residual voltage even after the
device has been switched off.
◆Open all external and internal connectors and ensure them will not
being switched back on
◆After switching off the device, you must wait for 10 minutes at least
before touching any components
◆Under a proper guidance to check whether the device is neutral or
not by proper testing tool.

DANGER!
Risk of fatal injury from arcing
The arcing may occurs when the device has faults or breaker and
plugs are not used in specified manner.
◆Always use components in accordance with the instructions in their
respective manual

 Risk of fatal injury: Battery

DANGER!

Risk of fatal injury due to electric shock


Batteries have a high short-circuit current when it is handled incorrectly
, it can cause an electric shock and even lead to serious injury and/or
death.
◆While working, remove watches、 rings and other metal objects
◆ Use tools with insulated handles only.
◆Do not place or store tools or other metal objects on the batteries
◆firstly, remove the charging and discharging sOurces and then
connect battery .

DANGER!
Risk of explosion due to the use of incorrect
battery types
If the battery which is used in the device is not approved, it may cause
explosion
◆Only use batteries that have been approved by the manufacturer

 Risk of injury: General

! WARNING!
Risk of injury due to lack of expertise
Installing and commissioning the storage system requires training, as
well as established expertise in electrical engineering.
Only the authorized、trained electricians could carry out the
installation、wiring and commission.

! WARNING!
Risk of burns due to high temperature
The components temperature of the device may be up to 100 °C
(212℉), which can cause serious scald.
After switching off the device, you must wait for 10 minutes before
touching any components.
Do not touch hot components

Risk of injury due to heavy weight
The heavy weight of the components may cause injury during
installation, disassembly and transportation.
Transport and mount the components with two people

! WARNING!
Risk of injury due fail to follow the correct
sequence
If the specified sequence is not followed during installation, it may
cause injury or material damage

Risk of injury due to sharp edges
The components have sharp edges which can cause Hand injuries if
you are not handled carefully.

batteries
Eye and skin injuries caused by opening or damaging the batteries.
Never open or damage the batteries

Do not short-circuit the batteries
Do not reverse the polarity of the batteries
Do not overcharge the batteries

 Other safety instructions

! WARNING!
Don’t climbing equipment and laying sundries on the device.
Don’t decompound, renovate and repair the equipment.
Don’t do electrical maintenance to the internal of equipment. If
necessary, please contact with the agent.
Don’t touch the vent of the device. With board or plastic bags pack
the equipment is forbidden.
Don’t put any objects inside the equipment.
Don’t touch、tract and cut off the cable of the device.
Don’t set the device near heat source, such as the electric stove.
Don’t use wet cloth or potion ,such as diluents, to clean device
Don’t pull the power cord of the device.
Don’t touch the power supply with wet hand or cloth.
Don’t set the device near the high frequency machine、wireless
machine and machines which can send waves(radio and television).
Don’t hit and fell the equipment.
Don’t use spray to spray the equipment.
Don’t install the equipment in mute or a lot of noise.
Don’t connect the device that can’t work without external power
supply (such as desktop computer) to the system. There are many
differences between MINIES and UPS, for example, it could not
seamless switching without external power supply.
Don’t access power even after the completion of installation when
there are damages in equipment and parts , because it may cause
electric shock

NOTICE!

Don't touch it when it thunders.


The device is not fit to medical equipment.
When the device appear deformation, breakage, sound and smell,
please contact with the agent.
When the device can’t run normally with fault, please contact with the
agent.
When the device or protective screen is added, please make sure the
space for equipment to be used for inspection or maintenance is enough.
If the device needs regular maintenance, please contact with the
agent.
When not in use for a long time, please keep the system on a full
charge.
When the device is moved, please contact with the agent.
The device must be installed indoor, and outdoor isn’t permitted.
The device only be used in European .If you have other special
requirements, please contact with the agent.

2.8 Function introduction


 Store excessive electric energy generated by PV in batteries and supply power to household in case
the PV power is insufficient.
 Supply emergency power supply for household when grid power drops off.
 It has remote control function and can provide users with standard communication interface.
 It supports APP software and enables customers to view the system data from smart phone.

2.8.1 Match load


The product is under remote control mode by default after power on and will discharge by matching
household appliance or charge by matching PV automatically after receiving no remote control
command.
Note: In order to ensure that the product is under standby, the product may charge its battery from grid
(about 0.3KWh-0.4KWh electric energy of grid will be consumed) when it shows low battery since it
cannot be charged by PV in rainy days

Description of the main conditions with match load function:
 The condition with adequate illumination in sunny days.
When PV energy is no less than the power required by household appliance, the excessive electric
energy will be stored in the ES or sold to the grid.

2.8.2 Functions of emergency power supply
The MINI ES can supply emergency power for household appliance of low power temporarily during
power outage.
 It can only supply essential power for household appliance temporarily, and cannot be used to
supply power for long time.
 Important household appliance is prohibited to be accessed from the off-grid interface. Otherwise,
abnormal power outage may be caused.
 It is applicable to devices with low power, such as mobile phones, computers and temporary lighting,
other than motors, pumps and other devices with high power and great impact.

2.8.3 Remote control function
The product has a RS485 remote communication control interface and can provide users with a
standard communication protocol to control product charging or discharging in long distance.
2.8.4 Forced charging function
Please ensure a normal grid connection before charging the product, and operate as follows:

Download the APP application software “BYD Energy System” first and register the product
according to the message prompted of APP.

4.2 Description of nameplates


Nameplates are mounted on the housing at left side at facade of the system, and include important
parameter information of the system, so please properly protect it during transportation, installation,
maintenance and overhaul. Destroy or removal is prohibited!
