TITLE: Stabbing Board Pre-Use Inspection Checklist

Climbing into the derrick/ mast is only allowed with a correct full body safety harness.
When the employee arrive on the stabbing board he must hooked up his safety line to

the stop chute which is situated in the derrick/ mast above the stabbing board. It is not
allowed to install the stop chute on the stabbing board himself.
Are all pins/ bolts & nuts secured where the stabbing board is connected to the mast to
2
prevent unwanted loosening caused by shaking or vibration.
Is the complete stabbing board provided with a separate safety line or turn buckle and
3
is this line or turn buckle properly connected to the derrick or mast.
Is the characterization of the safe working load (SWL) available on the stabbing board
4
and also the air winch?
General condition of the construction: are the construction parts bent, worn, loose,
5
mighty corroded or defect e.g. pins/ bolts and nuts, handrails etc.
Ensure the compressed air line is fully open,
the complete system-pressure is available
and has the possibility to close the air supply immediately in case of an emergency.

Is the lubricator bowl filled up with oil,
the pressure gauge in good condition
and the pressure reducer adjusted.
Is the tension line of the locking dogs evenly adjusted
7
and is the clearance from the locking dogs to the locking blocks 8 - 10 mm.
Only for lightweight stabbing boards
7a Is the pre-load tension line of the locking bar evenly adjusted
and is the clearance from the locking bar to the locking brace 10 mm.
Function test of the locking-system:
Lowering the board to the lowest travelling point for exoneration of the chain from the

winch, in this position the locking dogs must come out evenly through the tension of the
spring over the locking blocks.
Is there a safe means of access/ egress to/ from the actual board

and the possibility to hook up the safety line.
Is it possible, without any obstruction to turn smoothly up/ down the board
10
and (if available) respectively to move it horizontal.
Is it possible, without any complication to travel the board with the (air) winch over the
11 complete work area to move up/ down
and also will be react the steering components correctly.
Is the stabbing board inspected by a qualified expert or supervisor in accordance with
12 the regulations
and is there recognized any shortcomings.
Are the complete lifting gear and lifting eyes inspected
13
and marked with the present colour code.
Should be the turn up/ down or horizontal moveable board is connected to the ACS-
14
system, this function must be tested.
Before stabbing board operations
15 A Toolbox Talk must be held before the stabbing board operations begin and the
Stabber (Derrick man) must be instructed in the function of the stabbing board.
