Troopers responded to the scene around 2:10 p.m., which occurred on US Hwy 165 at C. Walters Road. The crash involved a bicycle, ridden by
Jacob L. Simpson (W/M 15 yrs) and a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Lacey J. Jordan (W/F 19 yrs) of Oakdale, LA. Simpson was riding the
bicycle northbound on US Hwy 165, in the middle of the inside (left) lane, when the northbound Chevrolet collided with him.
Simpson was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Cabrini Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Jordan was wearing her seatbelt and received minor injuries. She was transported to Cabrini Hospital for treatment.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Louisiana law requires that every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable.
Bicycle helmets are 85% effective in reducing total head and brain injuries. Bicycle helmets are the single most effective way to reduce fatalities
due to head injuries. When wearing a bicycle helmet, make sure it fits snugly on your head and the clasp is locked.
