Topic / Title Distance and Displacement

Grade Level Grade 7 – Science

Time Allotment 60 minutes
Performance Standards
Conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster risk reduction
Learning Competencies and Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

Describe the motion of an object in terms of distance or displacement, speed or velocity,

and acceleration; S7MT-Ii-6

ELICIT 5 minutes MATERIALS

Manila paper
The teacher will ask the students to write down a word for each letter
written on the board:
MOTION

LS: Taxonomy Building

ENGAGE 5 minutes
 The teacher will ask the students the following questions:
o Who runs faster?
 Bicycle vs Motorcycle
 Cat vs Mouse
 Cheetah vs Lion

EXPLORE 20 minutes
Ask students for examples of motion in the world around them. Encourage
them to think of both large and small examples, such as the motion of
Earth and the motion of atoms. Also ask for both fast and slow examples,
such as a plane and a turtle. Also, discuss the importance of having a frame
of reference when describe motion.
EXPLAIN 10 minutes
The teacher will do a quick lab to compare Distance and Displacement. Activity

ELABORATE 10 minutes
Manila Paper
 My chosen word is distance. and Marker
 I know that I know distance a numerical measurement of how
far apart objects or points are.
 First I know what is a reference point.
 In addition, I know reference point is a place or object used for
comparison to determine if something is in motion.
 Finally I know that in most cases, "distance from A to B" is
interchangeable with "distance from B to A"
 Now, you know something that I know

EVALUATE 5 minutes
Pen and Paper
Let the learner answer the teacher made test.

EXTEND
Pen and Paper
 Let the students answer the following question:

How would you describe the motion of the people and objects
around you? How do we know when an object is moving?
What is a frame of reference? How do you decide which frame
of reference to use when describing people or objects
movements? How far did the object go from the reference
point? Which direction is the object moving? What is an object
displacement? How do distance and displacement differ? What
is a vector?.
