ACADEMIC PROJECT UNDERTAKEN

• Project – Experimental Investigation of Vibration Damping in Boring Operation
Using Passive Damper
• Duration – Six Months

• Project Description –
o It includes improvement of vibration damping of a boring bar in conventional boring
operation using passive damper.
o We mounted passive damper from the materials Nylon and Polyurethane of four
distinct lengths.
o Boring Bar of 16 mm*16 mm cross-section and 200 mm long of WIDAX make is
used.
o Workpiece material used EN6 (carbon steel). It troughed to inner diameter of 51 mm
and outer diameter of 98 mm.
 o Use of Fast Fourier Transformer (FFT) Analyser and Accelerometer connected to
Laptop.
o Use of reliable Lathe machine for experiment.
o In small workshops where boring operation suffers vibrations due to high overhang
of the tool.
o After experiment results obtained were found satisfactory and indicate that passive
damper can be used for minimizing the effects of vibrations which ultimately results
into enhancement of surface finish.
o We successfully reduced vibration from 35 µm/s²measured for conventional boring
bar to 31.5 µm/s² when Polyurethane was used and 25.75 µm/s² when Nylon was
used.
o We published a research paper on -
“Experimental Investigation of Vibration damping in Boring Operation using
Passive Damper” in IJREAT, volume 2, Issue 3 (June-July, 2014).

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
• I organized and supported Social Awareness and Computer literacy Campaign at Parner
District Ahmednagar under PRAYAS, a Youth Empowerment Initiative of Savitribai Phule
Pune University
