Narrator: On December 29, 1896 Rizal was notified that he was sentenced to death by firing squad in the

next morning. During his remaining hours, Rizal was busy meeting visitors from members of his family
and priests.

(While he was inside the cell, Fr. Saderra and Fr. Viza entered.)

Fr. Saderra: Rizal, I will give you this statue of Sacred Heart of Jesus which I carved during my days in
Ateneo.

Rizal: Thank you for this Fr. I truly appreciate it.

(Fr. Saderra exits the cell and the visitor that entered was his mother)

Teodora: (crying and sobbing) Rizal, kahit anong mangyari, mahal na mahal ka namin. Alam naming
ginawa mo ang lahat ng iyong makakaya para ipaglaban ang ating bansa. Lahat ng ginawa mo ay
tumatak sa puso’t isipan ng mga Pilipino.

(Trinidad entered the cell and went to his mother.)

Rizal: (whispered to Trinidad) There is something inside the alcohol stove.

(Teodora and her mom left the cell. While walking towards outside, an official handed over the alcohol
stove to Narcissa.)

Narrator: On the same day at 10:00 AM: Fathers José Vilaclara and Estanislao March visited Rizal,
followed by a Spanish journalist, Santiago Mataix of El Heraldo de Madrid, for an interview.

Mataix: Rizal, kamusta ka?

Rizal: Okay lang po, Father.

Mataix: Anong nararamdaman mo ngayon? Pansin kong napakakalma mo lang ah.

Rizal: Malungot. Sobrang lungkot ng nararamdaman ko, Father pero kailangan kong tanggapin at handa
akong mamatay para sa ating bayan.

Mataix: Alam kong napakalungot ng nararamdaman mo pero wag mong kakalimutan na hanggang sa
huli bibit namin ang lahat ng mga aral na ibinigay mo. (CHAR)

Rizal: Salamat po, Father.

Mataix: Magpakatatag ka hanggang sa huling sandali mo, Rizal. Paalam.

Rizal: Paalam, Father.

Narrator: Early Morning of December 30 he awakened early and wrote the dedication he had promised
to Josephine. He also wrote his last letters to his parents asking for forgiveness for all the sorrows he
had caused them. No one was allowed to enter his prison cell.

Rizal (talking to self): My beloved Father, Pardon me for the pain with which I repay you for sorrows and
sacrifices for my education. I did not want nor did I prefer it. Goodbye, Father, goodbye… Jose Rizal.”
Rizal (talking to self again): “To my very dear Mother, Sra. Dña Teodora Alonso 6 o’clock in the morning,
December 30, 1896. Jose Rizal."

Narration: The drum and bugle with the squad army came to an assembly. He came out of his cell,
bound to elbow with the Jesuits.

[Rizal is out of the cell, walking"]

Narration: 30 December, 6:30 AM: Death march from Fort Santiago to Bagumbayan begins. 4 soldiers
with bayoneted rifles lead the procession followed by Rizal, Taviel de Andrade, Fathers Vilaclara and
March and other soldiers. They passed by the Intramuros plaza, then turned right to the Postigo gate
then left at Malecon, the bayside road now known as Bonifacio Drive.

The Captain-in-charge: Rizal, this is where you will position yourself. Turn your back against the firing
squad and face the sea.

Rizal: I insist, I want to face the firing squad.

[Military Physician enters] : I will check your pulse if its normal. [Exits]

Narrator: December 30 at 7 am, Rizal shouted...

Rizal: Consummatum Est!

The Captain: Fuego!

*SHOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTSSSSSSS*

Narrator: The hero’s life had ended. In the background could be heard, “Viva Espana! Death to traitors”
