The grouting procedure —by Bruce Suprenant

Grout for high-lift grouting usually
is supplied by ready mix trucks and
pumped into place. The grout pump
used should quickly transport the grout
to the point of deposit without segre-
gation of the mix. Try not to splatter
the grout on flashing, masonry units,
and other items. Discard the grout if
it’s not in place within 2 1/2 hours af-
ter water is first added.
For economical placement, pump a
uniform height of grout not to exceed a
4-foot lift. Immediately after place-
ment, consolidate the grout by vibra-
tion. Construction specifications usu-
ally require the lift to be vibrated
within 10 minutes after pouring.
