Design Project- Design Institute

A design institute is a reflection of interest of society. It exhibits the area of interest of the creative
thinking. Around the world, there are various types of design institutes such as National Institute of
Design, Indian Institute of Art and Design. The performing arts complex is national arts centre. It
carries the responsibility of showcasing the national talent, culture to the world.

Navi Mumbai is well planned city. It hosts vast commercial, residential, institutional, infrastructure
facilities. The development around Navi Mumbai is taking big leap in economic and social growth of
the society. The upcoming International Navi Mumbai Airport, Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Nava-Sheva
Sea Link, renowned builder’s projects approximately 1000 acres plus mix used township schemes
around Panvel are all acting toward the growth of the city and nation. Apart from this Navi Mumbai
is lacking in showcasing the interest for creative design thinkers to the world in form of a design
centre. This thought made it possible to impart this topic in the architectural studio of semester-V.

Aim: To design-design institute reflecting the theme of the creative space it holds.

Objectives:

Designing design institute on the theme of philosophies defined by students.

Understanding circulation and functions of a designing institute.

Understanding architectural design form to replicate design philosophy.

Exploring various ways of design institute arena and channelizing concepts.

Students need to do case studies 1-Natioanl & 1- International from net, books and live designed
buildings regarding performing arts complex already executed or in progress around the world.
Students need to come up with individual options of sports theme. The case study presentation
should involve study of requirements as stated above. Student need to present his case study and
theme once he re-joins the college. Net and book case study can be done at individual level of
students and themes should be unique for individual students. The study tour case studies should be
done in group of 5. Themes should be like fashion design, industrial design, communication design,
etc. should be included as part of theme. The presentation date is 20/08/2018 at 9:30 am in
computer lab. Those not bringing their work will suffer in academic progressive marking.
