Today I would like to share things that I know briefly about Feminism. Generally, feminism is the belief
that man and woman should be treated as equal. It is extremely controversial topic for the people
around the world. If you take a look in the cyber world itself, almost half of the earth population is
talking about it. The word “feminist” was used to indicate people who supports feminism. Feminists
are seen as mad women who believe that female is the only true gender and spit on any man who try
to open the door for them but actually they are not. Feminism was not about making women stronger.
Women are already strong themselves. Its about changing the way the world perceives that strength.

Have you heard of the phrases like “You fight like a little girl.”, “Oh wow youre too muscly for
women!” and “Women usually make terrible bosses, but you manage this department just like a
man!” and “The car is so slow , the driver must be a woman”. Now this is the norms that can be seen
today or who knows until when.

I decided that I was a feminist since I was fifteen years old and this seemed uncomplicated to me. It
was that time I realized that why should we idolize some boys like Justin Bieber just because he can
sing and dance well while there are other talented girls out there that can basically do the same thing
as he did. From that moment, I realized that I could be a feminist. I started to analyse the small details
about feminism in various ways about the messages that were exposed through movies, songs and
books. Have you ever heard of the Hunger Games series , Divergent series, the Wonderwoman, Hidden
Figures and also the well known Disney cartoon, Frozen? Yes, these are the movies that actually
presented to me on how women can actually be really independent and be able to fight against all
odds.

Feminism was not only to level up the women’s enthusiasm but also to help the women in different
countries that were still downgraded, abused and treated as slaves. There were days that we heard
about Hillary Clinton making speech about women’s rights in 1995 but sadly, even the United States
Secretary of State weren’t able to make changes at that time. As years went by, a lot of movements
were build to stand up for issues regarding women’s right and these include the HeForShe campaign
that were organized by the United Nation on 2014.
Based on my observation throughout living as young lady carrying various type of duty in my life, I
could still feel a bit of discrimination around me when it comes to just being a woman. I was once
hanging out with some guys and being alone as a woman in that group, a lot of accusations were
thrown at me and to have this type of feeling, I could say that Feminism can be paradox sometimes.
It could bring you to the high level of self esteem and it could also lead you to opposite side of it.

Lets take the closest example, the Make Up Industry. It is an industry that promotes people
to put product on their face to look good and better. Then comes the opinion by Feminism that says
“if man don’t need make up to look presentable, why must women wear make up? But then Feminism
also says “women should be allow to wear makeup as it can be used as a tool to empower people”. I
know, it can be confusing if you did compare it with the Feminism definition that I have said earlier.

Last but not least, I would like say that it is not wrong to be a feminist but to act wisely is a
must and to feel free on being who you are is also compulsory. If you believe in equality between
women and men just as much as I do, lets just stop defining each other and start defining ourselves
by who we are. Thank you very much.
