MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

1. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
The entry requirements into the National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering are:
(i) Senior secondary school certificate (SSCE) with at least credit passes in four
other subjects in at most two sittings which must include; Mathematics
Physics, Chemistry, and one other subjects from Biology, Agric science, further
mathematics, Economics, Statistic, Technical Drawing, Auto-Mechanics and
metal works.
(ii) GCE O ’level or its equivalent or WASSCE with at least credit in English and
credit passes in four other subjects as listed in (i) above.
(iii) National Technical Certificate (NTC) with credit passes in Mathematics,
Integrated Physical Science, and English Language and in Mechanical trade
areas.
(iv) Credit at NBTE recognized Pre-National Diploma entry requirements in English
Language and four credits in the relevant subjects listed in (i) above.

2. ND PROGRAMME
Full time ND programme consist of departmental courses, departmental
related courses, IT Essentials / CCNA and General Studies courses. They are
taken in the first and second semesters of an academic session.

DEPARTMENTAL MISSION, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES


To produce qualified and competent technicians who will be able to face the challenges
associated with the aspiration of the country to be technologically developed and the
technicians to be self- reliant after graduation.
Therefore, at the end of the program, the diplomat i.e. mechanical engineering technicians who
are to be used by the nation’s industries, construction firms, public utilities and services should
be able to:
- Interpret and prepare Engineering Drawing of Mechanical Equipment , their
components and systems
- Carry out machining and fabrication operations.
- Produce machine component and assemble.
- Operate, maintain and service Mechanical equipment.
- Prepare appropriate Engineering report
- Carry out plant installations and maintenance.
- Apply management principles in organizing supervisory group and in the arrangement of
sequence of activities.
- Acquire and display basic entrepreneur skills.
- Apply adequate information technology (IT) skills.
