COARSE AGGREGATE SUBSTITUTES

FURTHER SCOPE

1. Testing of concrete mix properties containing 2 or more CA substitutes in varying proportions.

2. CSA concrete has smooth surface which weakens the bond between CSA and cement matrix. This can
be avoided by surface modification or chemical treatment of PCA could make its surface rough and
thereby ensure better bonding; and, restricting CSA replacement of coarse aggregate to 20%.

OBJECTIVES

1. To study/ conduct tests on mixes with CA substitutes in varying proportions (compressive strength,
split tensile strength, flexural strength, workability, durability in resistance to acid attack, etc.).

2. To study/conduct tests on mixes with fly ash and 1 or more CA substitute in varying proportions.

3. To study/conduct durability tests on concrete mixes containing 2 or more CA substitute/silica fume/fly

ash/nanomaterials varying proportions.

strength.
5. Apparatus to determine split Tensile strength.
6. Apparatus to determine flexural strength.
Volume of 1 standard cube = 0.003375 m3

Volume of 1 standard cylinder = 0.005301 m 3

2

Volume of 1 standard beam/prism = 0.00675 m 3

Volume of cement concrete required for 45(30+15) cubes, 30 cylinders, 30 beams = 0.513405 m 3

For M25 grade concrete, minimum cement content = 300 kg/m3

Total weight of concrete required = 300 x 0.513405 = 154.0215 kg
