Title: A Telephone home with a string

Introductions:
Sound waves a wave of compression and rarefaction, by which sound is propagated in an
elastic medium such as air.

Materials:
Two plastic/ paper cup
A long string
Paper clips
A ballpen for making a holes

Procedure:
First, take two plastic cups and a ballpen. Make a hole at the bottom of each cup with the
tip of the ballpen.
Second tie the paper clip to one end of the string.
Third pass the other end of the string through the hole, from inside the cup. Move the cup
to the end of the string till it is next to the paper clip.
Fourth take the loose end of the string and pass it through the hole of the second cup from
the outside of the cup.
Finally tie the second paper clip to the end of the sting from inside the second cup. We now
have both the cups at each end of the string and paper clips are inside the cup.
Discussion:
One kid will speak into one cup and second kid will hold the other cup to his ear. See that
the string is straight and tight. This is because when one person talks into his or her cup, the
bottom of the cup vibrates or moves back and fourth, When any object moves, it causes
movement in the air particles also. These particles hits the particles close to them , which
make them vibrates. This causes them to hit into more air particles. This movement is called
sound waves. The vibration travel through the string . The second person can hear the
sound waves and can therefore hear what the first person said.
