10 Tips on Winning a Scholarship

1. Start searching for scholarships as soon as possible. Don't wait until spring of your senior year in high school to start
searching, or you'll miss half the deadlines. Continue searching for scholarships even after you are enrolled in college. Consider
this like a full time job.
2. Answer all of the optional questions on a scholarship matching web site for about twice as many matches.
3. Use a free scholarship matching service like Fastweb.com. The Fastweb database is updated daily, and the site will email you
notifications of new scholarships that match your personal background profile.
4. Look for local scholarships on bulletin boards near the guidance counselor of financial aid offices, or the library's jobs and
careers section.
5. Apply to every scholarship for which you are eligible. Pursue less competitive scholarships, such as small awards and essay
contests, since they are easier to win and the money adds up and helps you win bigger scholarships.
6. Don't miss deadlines. Use a calendar and checklist to get organized.
7. Tailor your application to the sponsor's goals. Read and follow the instructions carefully.
8. If you have difficulty writing essays, try recording yourself as you answer the question out loud, and transcribe the recording
later. Most people can think and speak faster than they can write or type. Create an outline afterward to organize your thoughts.
9. Personalize your essay and be passionate. Write about something of interest to you. Make your application stand out from the
crowd. Talk about your impact on other people. Give examples and be specific.
10. Google your name and make sure you have a professional online profile. Use a professional email address, such as
firstname.lastname@gmail.com. Clean up the content of your Facebook account, removing inappropriate and immature material.

satisfaction of incorporating service into their lives and making a difference in their community and country. The intangible
benefits alone—such as pride, satisfaction and accomplishment—are worthwhile reasons to serve.

AmeriCorps programs do more than move communities forward; they serve their members by creating jobs and providing
pathways to opportunity for young people entering the workforce. AmeriCorps places thousands of young adults into intensive

"No Essay" Scholarship

The "No Essay" Scholarship, offered by College Prowler, isn't technically a summer scholarship. Whereas
most scholarships are offered once a year or only once ever, the "No Essay" Scholarship is offered at the
end of each month, which includes the summer months.

As you can probably tell from the title, this $2,000 scholarship requires no essay. It's a non-writer friendly
scholarship that pretty much only requires a pulse (and the skills to login or register for the website). If
you're a high school or current college student or looking to attend college in the next 12 months, then
you qualify. Winners are chosen at random. To not apply for such a simple scholarship this summer is
almost inexcusable.
You may already be lined up to receive student loans this upcoming fall semester but that doesn't mean
you can't apply for some of these scholarships this summer. Nothing beats free money, especially
scholarships like these, which for the most part, haveeasy scholarship applications.

If you must sit out in the sun this summer to relax or tan, why not grab your laptop and earn some free
money while you're at it? Just make sure your laptop doesn't fall into the pool and you should be good to
go.

www.raise.me Introducing a NEW way to earn scholarships from colleges

Students are eligible to receive scholarship money for each achievement from the start of 9th grade until midway
through 12th grade.

Through a new program called raise.me, you can automatically earn scholarships from colleges each time you achieve any of
the following goals in school:

- Get an A in a course ($100 - $1,000)

- Get a B in a course ($50 - $600)
- Participate in a school club or sport ($25 - $250)
- And much more
Our school is among the first in the country to take advantage of this opportunity, which is funded in part by the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation and U.S. colleges.

Here is how you can get the most from this opportunity:

1) Ensure that you create an account at www.raise.me.

2) Start racking up those good grades, community service, extracurricular activities, and other achievements to include in
your raise.me “Portfolio” in order to earn “Micro-Scholarships” from colleges. As a student you will be eligible to
receive scholarship money for each achievement from the start of 9th grade until midway through 12th grade.
3) Students: Visit www.raise.me to create your account.
4) Parents: Please go to: www.raise.me/parents for more information.
We hope using raise.me will make your path to college both more fun and affordable.

If you have questions, I encourage you to send an email to support@raise.me.

Increasing numbers of public and private colleges continue to join the raise.me program. Colleges are added on a monthly basis
and you can request colleges at any time. Your student will automatically get related Micro-Scholarships from all new colleges
as they become available.
