PRE- BOARD EXAMINATION (2019-20)


SUBJECT- PHYSICS
Time allowed: - 3 Hrs. CLASS – XII Maximum marks: 80

General Instructions

1. All questions are compulsory. There are 37 questions in all.


2. This question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.
3. Section A contains twenty questions of one mark each, Section B contains seven
questions of two marks each, Section C contains seven questions of three marks each,
and Section D contains three questions of five marks each.
4. There is no overall choice. However, internal choices have been provided in two questions
of one mark each, two questions of two marks, one question of three marks and three
questions of five marks weightage. You have to attempt only one of the choices in such
questions.

introduction of the dielectric.

28. In a meter bridge with R and S in the gaps,

29. Using Biot-Savart’s law, derive an expression for magnetic field at any point on axial line of a current carrying circular

30. Derive the lens equation for a convex lens when image formed is equal to the size of object

Write the basic assumptions used in the derivation of lens – maker’s formula and
hence derive this expression.

31. In a series LCR circuit with L = 10H, C = 60𝛍F, R = 20Ω connected to an ac source 220 of variable frequency. Calculate
(i) The angular frequency of the source which drives the circuit at resonance.
(ii) The current at the resonance frequency.
(iii) the rms potential drop across the capacitor at resonance.
32. .(a) Draw a plot showing the variation of potential energy of a pair of nucleons as a
function of their separation. Mark the regions where the nuclear force is
(i) attractive and (ii) repulsive.

35. (a) Use Gauss’s theorem to find the electric field due to a uniformly charged infinitely large plane thin sheet with surface
charge density .
(b) An infinitely large thin plane sheet has a uniform surface charge density +𝜎. Obtain the expression for the amount of
work done in bringing a point charge q from infinity to a point, distant r, in front of the charged plane sheet.
OR
(a) Draw the equipotential surfaces due to
(i) An electric dipole (ii) two identical negative charges separated by a small distance

(b) Define electrostatic potential at a point. Write its SI unit.


Three charges q1, q2 and q3 are kept respectively at points A, B and C at the vertices of an equilateral triangle of side r.
Write the expression for electrostatic potential energy of the system.

36. (a) Derive the expression for the condition of refraction at convex surface for real image when object is placed in rare

(b) Using the above relation derive the expression for lens maker formula

(a) In young’s double slit experiment, describe briefly how bright and dark fringes are obtained on the screen kept in front
of double slit. Hence obtain expression for the fringe width.
(b) The ratio of the intensities at minima to the maxima in the Young’s double slit experiment is 9:25. Find the ratio of the
widths of the slits

37. (a) What is Resonance condition in a series LCR circuit


(b) a series LCR circuit is connected to an ac source having voltage V=V0 sin𝜔𝑡. Derive the expression for the impedance,
instantaneous current and its phase relationship to the applied voltage. Find the expression for the resonant frequency

(a)Write working principle of a transformer and with a suitable diagram explain its working.
(b) Give any two energy loss in working efficiency of transformer.
(c)A step up transformer converts a low voltage into high voltage. Does it violates the principle of conservation of
energy?
