Program
7.1 Health 1.Busog Lusog Talino Program (BLT). The 600
program in 2012-2013 covered 19 BLT schools
and 5 municipalities where 480 children 500
considered as malnourished were given a daily
lunch for 136 day- feeding cycle. Of these 480 400
children, 90% have become normal in weights.
The school after it has been promoted as the 300 Column1
Area Implementing Partner (AIP) of the
480 Series 2
Jollibee Foundation has also established a tie- 200
up with 1 private HEI- the St. Paul University Series 1
as the local implementing partner (LIP) under 240

the JBLFMU-Arevalo umbrella. The school
works closely with 5 LGU’s for its

sustainability. It has conducted 1 stakeholders’
forum and completed the yearly evaluation.
2.Information/Dissemination/Communicatio
n Campaign on health-related issues and “Be 2012-

Healthy Be Happy” (BHBH) program. 2013

The CES in 2012-2013 conducted two


lectures on health for parents whose children 2011-

are beneficiaries of BHBH program in Sto. 2012
Nino Sur Elementary School through the help Series 1
of the school physician and nurses. Column1
CES also distributed food supplement on 2012- Column2
August 30, 2012 to children through the 15

assistance of CES volunteers. It likewise
donated rice on Sept. 5, 2012 to the school to
supplement and compliment the feeding

program for children. Leaflets on “Dengue 7

prevention” and on TB prevention were also
distributed on August 25, 2012 by the CES
volunteers among Sto. Nino Sur residents to 0 10 20
deepen their awareness on health concerns.

2. Seminar/Training for teachers/parents in


partner schools/ mentoring the community
A series of seminars on food handling in June
2012 were conducted especially to parents
whose children are beneficiaries of feeding
program in 19 BLT schools as well as in Sto
Nino Sur Elem. School.
3.Book Donation
Books collected by CES student volunteers
were distributed to 2 schools, namely: Sto.
Nino Elem. School ( Aug. 13, 2012 ) and
Mabini Primary School ( December 18, 2012)

4.Tutorial classes
The tutorial classes in Sto Nino Elem.
School started during the first week of Dec.
2012 and ended on February 23, 2013. There
were 3 sections involved from Grade 3 with 5
to 6 student volunteers facilitating and at least
one personnel from CES supervising. Other
teachers from the said school were also
present to help facilitate other needs of the
children.
6. Seminar on Extension-related topics
(Leadership/Values Formation)
Seminar on values and
teambuilding/leadership for extension
volunteers (teachers, staff and students) was
conducted on March 3-5, 2013 at Villa Igang,
Nueva Valencia. The main goal was to equip
volunteers with the right values and skills that
they need in implementing or facilitating
extension or community service program.
7.Mentoring the Community
Through the “mentoring the community
program” of the school, a training on “Work
Values” was conducted to all the parents and
teachers of Oracon Elem. School, Nva.
Valencia, Guimaras on October 28, 2012. Dr.
Geneva Eler, the school’s academic
coordinator facilitated the activity.
Also part of the mentoring program was the
seminar on “InformationTechnology”
facilitated by the Information System staff for
the faculty of Oracon Elem. School on October
27, 2012.
7.3 Livelihood Training/Projects
Livelihood A seminar on “Vertical Gardening” was
conducted for all residents of Sto. Nino Sur on
Dec. 8, 2012 at the mentoring Rm, JBLFMU-
Arevalo.The purpose was to provide urban
residents with the technology of producing
vegetables for family consumption or even for
additional income. The seminar was facilitated
by Mr. Tionko, a vertical gardener himself.

Another sustainable initiative of the school


is the sewing project with 3 women engaged
in this income –generating venture. The 3
women now are able to augment the family
income through this project and have bought
their own personal sewing machines.

Likewise, a jetmatic pump was donated by


Mr. Pirante to Bernacer family of Sto. Nino Sur
to help the family especially the wife generate
income as a laundry woman. The family does
not anymore struggle to fetch water from the
deep well and has rather found water easy to
collect thru the jetmatic pump.

A regular meeting and monitoring of the


cooperative members is being done to help
strengthen the cooperative spirits among Sto.
Nino Sur members of the cooperative.
7.4 Values 1.Daily Bible Vacation School
Formation To promote values formation among
youth and children in Sto. Nino Sur, a “ Daily
Bible Vacation School “ was conducted on
May 15-20, 2012. This five-day spiritual
activity was facilitated by Dr. Emelie Coo, an
English faculty , and Mrs. Mirazol Dionson, a
guidance counselor.
3. JA-Christmas
To inculcate volunteerism among the
JBLFMU-Arevalo’s faculty, students and staff,
a JA—Christmas was launched. The concept
was to provide each office and subject area
heads a name of family considered as the
poorest among the poor. During the JA
Christmas on December 13, 2012, all members
with their packs of groceries, sacks of rice,
clothing and others, marched toward the
houses where the family concerned resides.
Prior to the Christmas-gift giving, the
members of the academic community were
encouraged to visit the Sto. Nino Sur
community to get a better picture of the

7.5 1. Maintaining/monitoring of JBLFMU-
Environme Arevalo Butterfly Habitat

the school’s effort is the provision of a
caretaker who regularly oversees the habitat
especially fertilizing the plants to produce
flowers for the butterfly
2. Participation to International Coastal
Clean-up
As part of the school’s initiative for
environment, NSTP students and staff joined
in the river and coastal clean-up conducted
along the coastline fronting the school in Sto.
Nino Sur, Arevalo on September 7, 2012. The
members of the school staff on the other
hand, were assigned to clean at Segment 3 of
the Batiano River on the same day.

3.Annual Tree and Mangrove Planting


The school collaborated with the Iloilo
Province tree planting conducted on July 14,
2012 in Passi City. Another mangrove planting
was done in Dumangas, Iloilo in August 2012
with the faculty, staff and students as
volunteers
4.Participation in Marine Sanctuary and Sea
Grass Monitoring at Villa Igang
To prove the school’s CES involvement in
the development of marine sanctuary and sea
grass monitoring, one staff was assigned to
help the research office to undertake the
planned activities.
5.Seminar on Marine Resource Management
A seminar on “Marine Resource
Management” was conducted on August 8,
2012 in Brgy. Magamay in the morning and in
Poblacion (Mun. Hall) on the same day but
later in the afternoon. The purpose was to
educate residents who are living nearby to
help preserve the environment. The activity
was facilitated by Dr. Melchor Magramo,

6. “Linis Estero” program
The JBLFMU-Arevalo as a signatory to the
“Linis Estero” project, spearheaded a
quarterly coastal clean-up in SNS. Part of the
program is also the river clean-up of the
Batiano River, segment 3 with the faculty and
staff actively involved. The collaborators are
the CARES, the residents and barangay
officials, and the Punta Villa. Personnel from
DENR was also part of the group who
spearheaded the activity. The latest of the
activities conducted was on March 23, 2013
along the Sto. Nino Sur coastline.
7.6 1. Training on Maritime Safety Dr. Melchor Magramo talks to the

ups have been established and that included
LGU’s from Jordan, Buenavista, Nueva
Valencia , Badiangan and Janiuay. The CES has
also established linkage with St. Paul
University Iloilo- an HEI.
