Time Limit and Test Proper - 3 hours and 10 minutes (8 AM to 11:10 AM) for CSE
Professional
Both the Professional and Sub-Professional CSE have questions in English and Filipino.
The time required for pre and post examination activities is approximately one hour
before and one hour after the test proper. Gates of testing venues shall be closed at 7:30
AM. Examinees who will arrive later than 7:30 AM shall not be admitted in the testing
venue.
Passing Rate

All CSC exam including Professional and Sub-Professional for both PPT and COMEX require a passing rate of 80%.

English Grammar and Correct Usage Sample Tests

Understanding Verbs – their Forms and Usage

Verbs are action words. Their main usage is simple to remember.

Present Tense - Add [highlight]S[/highlight] when talking about [highlight]Singular

someone, somebody, anyone, anybody)

Examples:

 Taylor writes her original lyrics.

Past Tense
Add[highlight] D[/highlight] or [highlight]ED[/highlight] to regular verbs, used
when talking about the past.

Examples:

 Cathy baked a chocolate muffin for me last night.

 The farmers received their first check yesterday.

Examples:

 give – gave – Last Christmas, I gave you my heart.

 write – wrote – I wrote a letter yesterday when I was absent.

Past Participle

Use [highlight]Has[/highlight] (if singular noun) or [highlight]Have[/highlight] (if


plural noun) following the past participle form of the verb.

Examples:

 She has written the most romantic poem. – since “she” is a singular noun,
use HAS + Past participle form of verb

 They have written the funniest story. – since “they” is a plural noun, use
HAVE + Past participle form of the verb

Understanding Pronouns and their Antecedents


Pronouns are words that substitute nouns. Every pronoun has antecedents and
they must be near each other.

Sentences examples:

 Every weekend, Sheila practices her piano lessons in her house. (Correct)

 Every weekend, Sheila practices piano lessons in her house. (Incorrect)


Understanding Prefix and Suffix

Synonyms and Antonyms
