Flexi WCDMA BTS
Flexi WCDMA BTS consists of the following self-supporting BTS modules:

Radio module RF Module

– provides the radio frequency (RF) functionality
– Maximum 3 RF modules can be directly RF Module
connected to basic System Module without RF
chaining
RF Module
System module
– provides the baseband processing as Extension
well as the control and transmission functionality System Module
– capacity depends on type of system
BTS System
module Module
Transmission sub-module AC AC-> DC BBU
– Integrated in System Module and provides the (Optional)
physical Iub interface to the Radio Network
Controller (RNC) or I-HSPA Adapter

Baseband extension module Flexi RF Modules

– Required in cases where two system modules in
one BTS
– Flexi System Extension Kit cable set (FSKA) are Flexi System Module

Configurations

COC, FSC, UOC, SINGLE: definitions

• COC: Cost Optimized Configuration

• FSC : Feederless Site Configuration -> Single RF-Module per sector
• UOC: Upgrade optimized Configuration
• SINGLE: RX diversity path is not used, 1TX and 1RX path per carrier

COC and UOC configurations can be implemented as FSI- Feederless Site

Installation. FSC is a special type of a FSI configuration because it always
uses one single RF Module for every sector and also all the RF Modules are
located farther than 4m from the System Module.

Asymmetric cell configurations are supported, but asymmetric cell configurations with
different cell powers are not supported.

Scalable base station backhaul solution

Flexi WCDMA BTS offers a basic backhaul capacity of

• 2 x E1/T1/JT1 (FTPB, FTEB, FTIA, FTJA, FTHA, FTIB, FTLB)
• 1 x STM1/VC-4 (FTOA)
• 1 x Flexbus (FTFA, FTFB)
• 1 x Ethernet (FTIA, FTJA, FTIB, FTLB, FTFB)*

Additional capacity can be equipped on demand

• 2 x E1/T1/JT1 (via ASW, up to 16 interfaces per module)
• 2nd, 3rd Flexbus (via ASW)
• 2nd, 3rd Ethernet (via ASW like RAN1317 or RAN1769)

Further solution extensions with NSN TRS Products

• ATM aggregation: Tellabs 8600
• MWR Hub with Ethernet switching: FlexiHybrid, FIU19E, FlexiPacket Hub

* for optical GE an optional GE SFP is required
