GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 21: (20-28)

The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke
"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has
come near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who
are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it; for
these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all that is written. Alas for those who are with
child and for those who give suck in those days! For great distress shall be upon the
earth and wrath upon this people; they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led
captive among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles, until
the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. "And there will be signs in sun and moon and
stars, and upon the earth distress of nations in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and
the waves, men fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world;
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of man
coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take
place, look up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
REFLECTION:
Jesus speaks of his second coming as a known fact, a for certain event which we can
confidently expect to take place in the Lord's time of choosing. This coming will be
marked by signs that all will recognize - signs which will strike terror and grief in those
who are unprepared and wonder and joy in those who are ready to meet the Lord.
When the Lord Jesus returns he will fully establish his kingdom of justice and
righteousness and he will vindicate all who have been faithful to him. His judgment is a
sign of hope for those who have placed their trust in him. Do you hope in God and in
the promise of Christ to return again to create new heavens and a new earth?
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, help me to serve you faithfully and to make the best use of my time now in
the light of your coming again. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertrude

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union
with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for
sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and
within my family. Amen.

Cont….. Preventing COPD
5 Steps to Reduce Your Risk for COPD
If you are concerned about getting COPD, there are steps you can take to protect
yourself.
 If you are a smoker, STOP SMOKING. Quitting smoking is the single most
important thing a smoker can do to live a longer and healthier life.
 If you don't smoke, don't start. Smoking causes COPD, lung cancer, heart
disease and other cancers.

5
 Avoid exposure to secondhand smoke. Make your home smokefree. You'll not
only protect yourself, but your family too. Learn about your rights to a
smokefree environment at work and in public places.
 Be aware of other dangers. Take care to protect yourself against chemicals,
dust and fumes in your home and at work.
 Help fight for clean air. Work with others in your community to help clean up
the air you and your family breathe.
