SET OF INTEGERS

The set of natural numbers N may also be called the set of positive integers or
integers greater than zero. Integers that are greater than zero are called positive integers. The
set of natural numbers, N may also call the set of positive integers or integers greater than
zero. Integers that are less than zero are called negative integers. Zero is neither positive nor
negative. A positive number can be written with a positive sign (+), but it does not need to
have a sign. A negative number must be written with a negative sign (-).

Another way of showing the set of integers is to locate them as points on a

number line. On a horizontal number line, positive integers are to the right of zero and
negative integers are to the left of zero. The number associated with a point on a number line
is the coordinate of the point. The point on the number line assigned to 0 is called the origin.

Two integers are opposites they are each the same distance away from zero,
but on opposite sides of the number line. One will have a positive sign, the other a negative
sign.
