HEALTH HAZARDS
Health Hazard Low Irritant - high chronic toxicity. Avoid dust generation. Chronic exposure may cause lung fibrosis (silicosis). Silica
Summary crystalline quartz and cristobalite are classified as carcinogenic to humans (IARC Group 1). Symptoms may be
delayed 12-24 months after heavy exposure. The risk of disease is increased by smoking. Adverse health effects are
usually associated with long-term exposure to high dust levels.
Eye Low irritant. Exposure may result in irritation and lacrimation.
Inhalation Low irritant. Over exposure at high levels may result in irritation of the nose and throat with coughing. Prolonged and
repeated inhalation of respirable silica may result in pulmonary fibrosis (silicosis). Crystalline quartz and cristobalite
are classified as carcinogenic to humans (IARC Group 1).
Skin Low irritant. Prolonged and repeated exposure to dust may result in irritation and dermatitis.
Ingestion Low toxicity. This product is biologically inert. However, ingestion may result in gastrointestinal irritation due to the
powder’s mechanical action.
PRECAUTIONS
Flammability Non flammable. No fire or explosion hazard exists.
Ventilation Do not inhale dust/ powder. Use with adequate natural ventilation. Where a dust inhalation hazard exists,
mechanical extraction ventilation or dampening with water is recommended.

FIRST AID
Eye (Dust exposure) Flush gently with running water. Seek medical attention if irritation develops.
Inhalation If over exposure occurs leave exposure area immediately. If other than minor symptoms are displayed seek
immediate medical attention.
Skin Gently flush affected areas with water. Seek medical attention if irritation develops.
Ingestion Due to product form and application, ingestion is considered highly unlikely.
SAFE HANDLING
Storage Store in cool, dry, well ventilated area, removed from acids (eg hydrofluoric acid) and foodstuffs. Ensure containers
are adequately labelled, protected from physical damage and sealed when not in use.
Waste Disposal Reuse where possible. Ensure product sprayed with water to prevent dust generation. Dispose of to an approved
landfill site. Contact Risk Management Technologies on (08) 9322 1711 for further advice.
EMERGENCY
Spillage If spilt (bulk), wear dust-proof goggles, PVC/rubber gloves and a Class P1 (Particulate) respirator (where an
inhalation risk exists). Collect and place in sealable containers for disposal. Avoid generating dust.
Environment The main component/s of this product occur naturally in the earth’s crust. It is not anticipated to cause any adverse
effects to plants or animals.
