UTILIZATION OF WATER GALLONS AS AN ALTERNATIVE PUBLIC URINALS

RATIONALE

Lack of accessible urinals has always been a problem especially for male drivers when
travelling from one place to another for hours. It is also an inconvenience for people who
suddenly feel the urge to pee at unexpected place and time. As a result, they tend to use in
streets, roadsides and sidewalks as urinals. In addition, open urination in public places reflect a
lack of sanitation, hygiene and discipline.

The aforesaid problems are a significant factor in causing various and widespread
diseases such as urinary tract infections, hepatitis, intestinal worm infections and others. There
are also environmental concerns to consider against open urination in public. It is proven that the
chemicals in human urine can lead to damage in ecosystem, causing the life of other animals at
risk. Urinating in public may also pose as a public nuisance or disorderly conduct as it can lead
to indecent exposure or public lewdness. Such act could create a problem to nearby
establishments and residences in keeping up with sanitation regulations and hygiene preferences.
That being said, it is apparent that urine smell contributes to odor pollution and can affect
economy of an area and harm tourism efforts.

The making of water gallons as an alternative urinals is made to prevent open urination in
public places to curtail the spread of contagious diseases and preserve the environment. The
same will also help build environmental and health awareness among citizens in terms of
sanitation and hygiene.

OBJECTIVES

This implementation of water gallons as an alternative public urinals is proposed:

 To make urinals using recycled water gallons.

 To prevent possible negative impacts in terms of:
o Health
o Environment
 To provide convenience to males concerning their urination.
 To install recycled urinals on road sides where people commonly passed by.
