SELF DIRECTED LEARNING ACTIVITY

SUBJECT: FUNDAMENTALS IN NURSING (LABORATORY)
TITLE: PAARAL HUGAS-KAMAY
NUMBER OF HOURS: 3 HOURS
1. Goals & Objectives:
The goal and objective of the activity is to impart the knowledge and
importance of Proper Handwashing to the Day Care pupils. It is important for a
child to know the importance of proper handwashing because this is a best way
to keep them away from many types of diseases that can be acquired through
direct or indirect contact with hands.

2. Implementation Process:
An agreement between both parties happened through a formal
letter.
After the arrangement, we, nursing students introduced ourselves to
the Day Care pupils. We told them our intention and explained it to them in a
child-friendly way.
We discussed to them what are the benefits and importance of
handwashing and the good things it does to our health and hygiene.
We agreed that there would be one nursing student per pupil.
We performed the proper way of handwashing together with a Day
Care pupil. We instructed them how the procedures should be done. While
explaining everything to them.

3. Learning Evaluation
After performing the proper handwashing with the children and
explaining its importance to hygiene and health, they were able to gain
knowledge about it. They may not remember all of the procedures but they will
be able to learn that handwashing is very important to the improvement of
health. They also learn that washing hands can decrease the risk of acquiring
diseases and illnesses.

SELF DIRECTED LEARNING ACTIVITY

SUBJECT: FUNDAMENTALS IN NURSING (LAB)
TITLE: PAARAL HUGAS-KAMAY
NUMBER OF HOURS: 3 HOURS

1. Goals & Objectives:

Our goals and objective first is to ensure that each child will have
the knowledge of proper hand hygiene, reduce the spread of
microorganisms and diseases, to improve health by continuously
practicing good hygiene, to minimize sick days of the children and to re-
emphasize the importance of hand hygiene.

2. Implementation Process:
Teaching day care pupils was really tough but joyful. Before we
start the process, we introduced ourselves and asked them their names to
gain their trust and to build rapport. We also asked them first if they have
any idea or what comes up in their mind when they hear hand hygiene or
hand washing. Greatly they have a lot of ideas. During the process, we
then started the steps in hand washing. On the final part, we played the
song “Baby Shark” wherein they all stood up laughing and dancing and
doing the steps. I saw the excitement on their eyes especially when we
took off the freebies to them (their snack). They went out of the room by
two’s and we taught them one by one.

3. Learning Evaluation:

After the event, I can see that the children now understand the
importance of hand hygiene. The steps were inculcated to their mind fast.
Thanks to the “Baby Shark” song, they learned while having fun.
