student it is very important to be familiar with the corporate practices and processes. The

study is mainly conducted to understand the overall functioning of the organization and to

have a practical experience in the business functioning.

1.3 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The concept of organization is a wide one. It states that systematic arrangement of formal-

informal relationship of human grouping and its practical shape through the activity like

production, marketing, finance, human resources management etc., for the accomplishment

of specified objective.

Business is not a single function, it is an aggregate of number of interrelated function, each of

them has its own importance. It is said to be given proper care for the efficiency of each of

these function. The sub function of the organization wants a proper consideration for the

effective working condition .If any sub function fails it will ultimately divert the overall

performance and function of organization. The study mainly focused on the key business

process of the organization as well as the key competitors of the steel industry

2.1 PROFILE OF THE INDUSTRY

STEEL INDUSTRY

Steel, the recycled material is one of the top products in manufacturing sector of the world.

The Asian countries have their respective dominance in the production of steel all over the

world. India being one among the fastest growing economies of the world and it has been

considered as one of the potential global steel hub internationally over the years. Particularly

after the adoption of liberalization policies all over the world, the world steel industry is

growing faster. The increasing demand of it was mainly generated by the development

project that has been going along the world.

Steel industry was till recently dominated by united states of America but this scenario is

changing with rapid pace with Indian steel companies acquisition free.

In the last year, the world has been two big M&A deals to take place.

 The Mittal steel listed in Holland, has acquired the world‟s largest steel company

called Arcelor steel to become the world‟s largest producer of steel company named

Acelor-Mittal.

 TISCO has acquired the world‟s fifth largest company, Corus, with the highest ever

stock price.

The most significant growth that can be seen in the steel industry has been observed during

the period 1960 to 1974 when the consumption of steel was around the whole world doubled.

Between these years the steel industry growth has been recorded to be 5.5%. Steel industry is

becoming more and more competitive with every passing day. During the period of 1960 to

late 1980 the steel market is to be dominated by the organization for economic co-operation

and development (OCED) countries.

A Report on Organisational Study of Minar Ispat Pvt. Ltd.

The main demand creator for steel industry are auto mobile industry, constructions,

infrastructure industry, oil & gas industry and container industry. Innovations are also take

place in steel industry cost minimization. Some of the cutting edge technologies that are

implemented in this industry are thin-slab casting making of the steel through the use of

electronic furnace, vacuum degassing etc.

In the year 2004, the global steel production has made a record level by crossing the 1000

million tones. Among the top producers in steel production, china is ranked to be first in the

world. According to ranking made by the worlds steel dynamics, Indian human resources

products are categorized in the tire two qualities of products. Both china and japan have

ranked the top. USA and South Korea comes as like India.

2.2 GLOBAL SCENARIO

The current global steel industry is its best position in comparing to last decades. The price

has been rising continuously. The demand expectations for steel products are rapidly growing

for coming years. The shares of steel industries are also in a high pace. The steel industry is

enjoying its 6th consecutive years of growth in supply and demand. And there is many more

merger and acquisitions which overall beyond the industry and showed some good results.

The supreme crisis has led to the recession in economy of different countries, which may lead

to have a negative effect on whole steel industry in coming years. However steel production

and consumption will be supported by continuous economic growth.

The countries like China, Japan, India and South Korea are in the top of the above in steel

production in Asian countries. China accounts for one third of total production i.e.m419m

ton, Japan accounts for 9% i.e.118 m ton, India accounts for 53m ton and South Korea is

accounted for 49m ton, which all totally becomes more than 50% of global production. Apart

from this USA, BRAZIL, UK accounts for the chunk of the whole growth.

2.3 GROWTH OF STEEL INDUSTRY IN INDIA

Steel industry reforms in India particularly in 1991-1992 have led to strong and sustainable

growth in the steel industry. Since its independence it has experienced steady growth in the

steel industry, further illustrating, this plan is the fact that a number of steel plants were

established in India with the technological assistance and investment by the foreign countries.

In 1991, substantial number of economic reforms were introduced by the Indian government.

These reforms boosted the development process of number of steel industries particular in

India which has subsequently developed rapidly. Yet another reform for steel industry came

in 1992, when every type of control over the pricing and distribution system was removed,

making the modern steel industry extremely efficient as well as competitive.

Additionally a number of other government measures have stimulated the growth of the steel

industry, coming in the form of an unrestricted. Continually posts phenomenal growth record

in steel production. In 1992, India produced 14.33 million tonnes of finished carbon steel and

1.59 million tonnes of pig iron.

Furthermore, the steel production capacity of the country has produce 59 million tonnes by

2012. In order to provide some support to the falling price, steel ministry is planning to

impose 5% import duty and withdraw 15% export tax in order to increase the outflows. Since

1991- 2008 India has produced nearly 46.575 million tons of finished steel and 4.393 million

tonnes of pig iron.

Both primary and secondary producers contributed their share to this phenomenal

developments, while there increase has pushed up the demand for steel at a very stable price.

In 1992, the total consumption of finished steel was 14.8 million tonnes. In 2008, the total

amount of domestic steel consumption was 43.92 million tonnes, with the increased demand

 Visveswara Iron and Steel Plant at Karnataka.

 Rourkela Steel Plant at Orissa

 Bokaro Steel Plant at Jharkhand.

2.4 STEEL INDUSTRY IN KERALA

The steel manufacturer Association of Kerala has demanded the State Govt. to provide the

uninterrupted power supply as promised in the Industry Policy 1992 for the smooth

functioning of several Industries Unit in India. The policy has emphasized Industrialist set up

production Unit in the state on account of the Government‟s promise of non-stop power

supply for the first 5 years along with the other concession such as pre 1992 tariff, exception

of electricity duty and sales tax.

Steel Industry in state, which is providing the direct employment to 15,000 people is

generating revenue to the tune of Rs. 75 crores to the state ex-chequer towards the excise

duty, sales tax and power charges. The association also protested against discrimination

shown in the case of private sector steel company comprising concessional rate of power.

A Report on Organisational Study of Minar Ispat Pvt. Ltd.

THERMO MECHANICALLY TREATED STEEL

TMT steel has been described as new generation high strength steel having superior

properties such as welding strength and bent ability meeting highest quality standards at

international level. Under thermo mechanical treatment of bars, the steel bars are made to pull

through a specially designed water cooling system were this are kept for such a period that

out of surface of bars become colder while the bars remains hot this creates a temperature

gradient in the bars. When the bars are taken out of the cooling system, the heat flows from

the core to the outer surface causing further tempering of steps bar there by helping them in

attaining highest yield strength of steels.

To decide the percentage of carbon content in the steel has been a major challenge for the

engineers. While certain minimum carbon content in steel is essential to achieve the required

strength, an excess of carbon content threatens it property of welding. In TMT bars this

problem has been eliminated. In these bars, the carbon content can be restricted to 0.25% to

attain welding and at the same time no strength is lost on this account. The joints can be

welded by ordinary electrodes and no extra precautions are required.

Another advantage of TMT bars as their though surface providing high yield strength and a

soft core providing excellent ductility are such properties which declare TMT steel highly

economical and safe for use. An additional advantage of TMT steel is that a twisting

operation is included in tor steel, which subjects are bars to torsion stresses making them less

corrosion resistance

Institute of Technology Mayyil, 2018 – 2020 MBA Batch Page 15

A Report on Organisational Study of Minar Ispat Pvt. Ltd.

PROCESS IN TMT TECHNOLOGY

The thermo mechanical process consists of online heat treatment in two successive phases.

The billets pass through a 21 stage processing reinforcing bars. Being the first stage in TMT

process, these bars pass through a fully automated quenching and are thermo cooled. As a

result the outer layer of the bars solidified into a marten state. In the next stage, that is self the

heat from the inner layer of the bars surface up. Due to this the outer crusts become even

more strengthened. And these bars are allowed to cool at room temperature in the cooling

beds. At this stage the inner core of the bars become ductile ferrite pearlier. This is the reason

for the extra ductility of MINAR TMT bars. This process is actually the reason why Minar

TMT bars much superior and preferred over normal CTO bars in the industry.

to 16mm. Pusher bed set production process in motion. All the accepted and approved

Ms Ingots are charged in the pusher to enable it to push the same in the future.

After 2 ½ hours the material attains 1200 degree c heat and become fit for rolling and it is

discharged through the discharge door of the furnace to the roughing stand through the

conveyor.

The roughing stand is having 10 passes and intermediate having 8 stands (7 + 1 finishing

stands). The Ms ingots passes through all the passes in the roughing stand and goes to

intermediate stand. There according to the size of the finished products the material goes

through the various stands. In other words if the products manufacturing is 8mm in size it

exhausts all the stand of intermediate. Whereas during the production of 16mm size it takes

only 5th and 8th stand.

From the finishing stand the finished products go through the cooling bed after shearing

machine. The materials are placed in the marked place of the cooling bed according to the

stand length of the product manufactured, and cut through the cold shearing machine. There

after product divide to the twisting bed for twisting. The entire product except TMT bars are

twisted from twisted yard. The twisted products are being bended, bundled and tagged and

MARKETING DEPARTMENT

Marketing is defined by the AMA as “the activity, set of institutions, and processes for

creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers,

clients, partners, and society at large. “It can also be defined as “the process by which

companies create value for customers and build strong customer relationships, in order to

capture value form customers in return.”

This replaces the previous definition, which still appears in the AMA‟s dictionary: “An

organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating, and delivering

value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the

organization and its stakeholders.” It generates the strategy that underlies sales techniques,

business communication, and business developments. It is an integrated process through

which companies build strong customer relationships and create their customers and for

themselves.

Marketing is used to identify the customer, satisfy the customer, and keep the customer.

With the customer activities, marketing management is one of the major components of

business management. Marketing evolved to meet the stasis in developing a new market

caused by mature markets and overcapacities in the last 2-3 centuries. The adoption for

marketing strategies requires business to shift their focus from production to the perceived

needs and wants of their customers as the means of staying profitable.

The term marketing concept holds that achieving organizational goals depends on knowing

the needs and wants of target markets and delivering the desired satisfaction. It proposes that

in order to satisfy its organizational objectives, an organization should anticipate the needs

and wants of customers and satisfy these more effectively than competitors.

Institute of Technology Mayyil, 2018 – 2020 MBA Batch Page 51

The term developed from an original meaning which referred literally to going to a market to

buy or sell goods or services. Seen from a system point of view, sales marketing is “ a set of

processes that are interconnected and interdepent with other functions, whose methods can be

improved using a variety of relatively new approaches ,”

MARKETING PLANNING

The marketing planning process involves forging a plan for a firm‟s marketing activities. A

marketing plan can also pertain to a specific product, as well as to an organization‟s overall

marketing strategy. Generally speaking, an organization‟s marketing plamming process is

derived from its overall business strategy. Thus, when top management are devising the

firm‟s strategic direction or mission, the intended marketing activiti s are incorporated into

this plan. There are several levels of marketing objectives within an organisation. The senior

management of a firm would formulate a general business strategy for a firm. However, this

general business strategy would be interpreted and implemented in different contexts

throughout the firm.

MARKETING STRATEGY

The field of marketing strategy encompasses the strategy involved in the management of a

given product. A given firm may hold numerous products in the market place, spanning

numerous and sometimes wholly unrelated industries. Accordingly, a plan is required in order

to effectively manage such products evidently, a company needs to weigh up and ascertain

how to utilize its finite resources. For example, a start up car manufacturing firm would face

little success should it attempt to rival Toyota, ford, Nissan, Chevrolet, or any other large

global car maker. Moreover, a product may be reaching the end of its life-cycle.

Thus, the issue of divest, or a ceasing of production, may be made. Each scenario requires a

unique marketing strategy. Listed below are some prominent marketing strategy models.

A marketing strategy differs from a marketing tactic in that a strategy looks at the longer term

view of the products, goods or services being maeketed. A tactic refers refers to a shoreter

term view. Therefore, the mailing of a postcard oe sales letter would be a tactic, but a

campaign of several postcards, sales letters, or telephone cells would be a strategy.

“G ood marketing is no accident, but a result of careful planning and execution. Marketing

practices are continually being refined and reformed in virtually all industries to increase the

chance of success. But marketing excellence is rare and difficult to achieve.

Good marketing has become an increasingly vital ingredient for business success and

marketing profoundly affects our day to day life. It is embedded in everywhwre we do, from

clothes we wear to website we click on. Marketing management is defined as the process of

creating, distributing, promoting and pricing goods services and ideas to facilitate satisfying

exchange relationship with customer in dynamic environment.

The aim of marketing is to now and undersstand the customer so well that the product or

sevice fits him and sells itself. Marketing is a human activity directed at satisfying, offer and
