Course Name: Recreational & Leisure Management

Course Description: Students will undertake independent study of their leisure and recreation
environment and suggest strategies to effectively meet the needs and
demands of such activities. This course provides students with exposure to
reading, interpreting, critiquing, and presenting data from relevant
studies. Specifically, students will take opportunities to explore the
evolution and development of management theories through a series of
extensive reviews of literature with particular emphasis on the different
context of leisure/recreation management such as service quality,
outdoor education, and even older adults’ leisure.

Placement: Second Year, First Trimester (TIM & EM)


Credit: 3 units (50 hours lecture)
Pre-requisites: THM 101 – Macro Perspective in Tourism & Hospitality
THM 103 – Micro Perspective in Tourism & Hospitality

General Objectives: At the end of the course, the students are expected to acquire:
1. Extensive knowledge and understanding on the concepts of leisure
and recreation and the roles these play on everyday life
2. Awareness on management practices and problems in leisure and
recreation through case study analysis.
3. Creative thinking in the conceptualization of their own guest activity
programs
4. Mastery of the English language by way of written and oral reports,
case studies, recitations and others.
