Siebel preference file

Siebel Preference file

1. SPF stands for Siebel Preference File.

2. In this context Preference means – what kind of customization the user wants at his individual session
level whenever he or she uses the Application.
Lets say for example some user – using the call centre module in siebel does not want to have
Accounts tab next to Home Tab and wants some other tab next to the Home Tab – now to achieve this
– there should be some way in siebel at the User level. This is done by changing the User Preferences
from – Tools (Application Level) -> User Preferences -> Tab Layout.

There are a lot many options which you can explore. Now all these preferences (Customizations)
which a particular user has set for his/her convenience are stored in the preference file known as SPF
file or siebel preference file.

This file resides in the UserPref Folder under the att folder in the Filesystem.

The file contains ID of the user in its name. Like some user with id andy will have the filename like
XXXXandyXXX.spf – where xxx is something that is added by siebel.

Probable reason for the corruption of spf file:

One of the most probable reasons for the corruption of spf file is the bad Gateway performance
generally accounting to very high CPU Usage.

What happens when the spf files get corrupted:

When the spf files get corrupted – the user does not see whatever changes or customizations he or
she has done and sees the default siebel layout.

How to overcome this issue:

Go to the Filesystem->att->UserPreference directory and locate the file for the user.Ask the user to
logout. Delete this file and ask the user to log back in. The file with default siebel user preference will
be created. Now ask the user to change the layout(preferences) as desired OR you can take a backup
of the existing spf file for the affected user and copy the spf file of a colleague who has the same
setting as desired by the affected user with the filename same as the spf file already existing for the
user.
