IV. PROCEDURE
Teacher's Activity Student's Activity REMARKS
CLASSROOM ROUTINE

I. Introduction
Let's try to recall about square
roots before we proceed in
solving quadratic equations
using this concept.

What is the square root of 4? 2

Square root of 16? 4

Square root of 144? 12

Square root of 49? 7

Last: square root of 8? 2√2

With this concept, we will be

able to find for the value of the
variable in a quadratic equation.

II. Interaction

Let's have an example:

X2 - 4 = 0

To find for the value of x, we must Transpose to the other side. x2 = 4

isolate x2. so, what do we do to -
4?

After which, extract square roots X

to both side to cancel for the
exponent of 2 and find for the
value of x. what is the square root
of x2?

What about 4? 2

Very good. In here, we could

have two roots: the positive 2 and
negative 2.

Let's check. What is 22 4

What about (-2)2 4

So they have the same answer.

Let's have another:

X2 + 9 = 0
Do you think this one has a No sir.
solution?

Why? If we transpose 9, and extract

square roots, there is no square
root of -9

Very good.

So, x2 + 9 = 0 has no real roots

Let's have another:

(x-4)2 = 25

In here, x-4 here represent as

one value.

So, what do we do here? We extract square roots

So, solve for the value of x. √(x-4)2 = √25

(x-4) = 5
X=5+4
X=9

Are there any questions so far? No/Yes sir.

III. Integration

If you have a square garden with 5 sir.

the area of 25, what do you think
is the length of one side of the
garden?

What if you have the square 22 sir

house lot with the area of 484
inches?

How are you able to come up Using the concept of square roots
with the answer?

Very good. That is the use of

square roots in real life
situations.

IV. Evaluation
In your notebook, solve the
quadratic equation by extracting
the square roots:
1. x2 = 16
2. y2 = 81
3. r2 - 100 = 0
4. a2 - 140 = 4
5. (k+7)2 = 36

CLASSROOM ROUTINE
- Classroom Management
- Closing Prayer

V. ASSIGNMENT
for mastery, solve quadratic equation by extracting square roots of the following:

1. x2 = 144 4. 2s2 = 50
2. (s-5)2 = 100 5. 4x2 - 225 = 0
3. (t+4)2 = 324
