Synopsis- Beggar Rehabilitation And

Skill development centre - Lucknow


Introduction
Lucknow has around 35,000 beggars who spend their
lives on the footpath. The majority of them have no skills
to generate any income. Even though some of them are
educated, they are either unable to work due to ill-health
or are not considered for any job. Most of them have
migrated from other cities and are excluded from
government welfare schemes because they do not
possess any proof of identity. They struggle to get
medical facilities due to discrimination.

Aim
To design a beggar rehabilitation and skill development centre in the
heart of the city. To study and research the condition of existing rehab
centres or Beggar jails. To study different aspects in which the
beggars can be helped.

Scope
The scope of the project Comprises of designing of the following
buildings, within the rehab centre.
1. Medical centre
2. Skill development block
3. Rehab Centre
4. Old age home
5. Learning space
6. Open learning area
7. Open Air Exhibition Space
8. Helipads
9. Vehicle Parking Space
10. Fully equipped Medical Center
Rational
Beggars in india live in extreme conditions, they are heavily
discriminated for begging. As most of them are unskilled, they do not
have respectable income, and they depend on begging majorly. So a
need of stepping up for them is really important. The rehab centres
which exists even they don’t function properly.
Why Lucknow?
Lucknow is rated as the 2nd most beggar populated city in India. It is
my maternal home town. And I think something really needs to be
done for the beggars.

The Site is located near Ghanta ghar precint- Lucknow
