Core Subject Description: Physical Education and Health offers experiential learning for learners to
adopt an active life for fitness and lifelong health. The knowledge, skills and understanding which
include physical and health literacy competencies support them in accessing, synthesizing and
evaluating information; making informed decisions; enhancing and advocating their own as well as
others’ fitness and health.

This course on recreational activities are associated with outdoor, natural or semi-natural settings; it
enables learners to move safely and competently in these settings while making a positive relationship
with natural environments and promoting their sustainable use. It consists of an array of offerings which
learners can choose from.

Mid-Term theme verses: “12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do
good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this
is the gift of God.”

2. Mountaineering (Hiking, trekking, camping, orienteering)

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of recreation in optimizing one’s health as a
habit; as requisite for physical activity assessment performance, and as a career opportunity

Performance Standard: The learner leads recreational events with proficiency and confidence resulting
in independent pursuit and in influencing others positively

Performance Task 1:

Nowadays, learners are engage in the modern technology for fast and easy access to learnings.
Based on a statistic report, 9 out 10 learners from the age of 10 up are engage to modern gadgets.
Somehow, the downside of this is that learners are no longer engage to physical activity. Senior high
students in Mandaue Christian School are no longer practising balance learning.

The grade 12 students are task to address this. They are to make recreational activities (aquatics
and land). They will form it into a program. This program will influence and encourage them to create
their own and personal recreational activity whether inside or outside the school and influence them to
be physically active. To do this, they are an event organizer of the recreational activities, a planner, and
performer of the activities.

The recreational program will be evaluated in terms of the content of the program performed,
correctness of the games and activities (Land and water), thorough execution of the program, proper
behavior, promptness, and the overall quality of the program.

Essential Question: Why is it important to understand recreation in optimizing one’s health and the word of
God in Ecc. 3:12-13, 1 Thess. 5:21-22, Col. 3:17, 1 Cor. 10:31, 8:9??

Lesson 1 : Recreational Activities

I. Nature of Different Recreational Activities.

Recreational Activities, as physical activities, have fitness and health-related benefits. Swimming and
mountaineering are two popular activities that people do for rest and recreation. Other activities involve
engaging and interesting activities that promotes health and teach self-defense, such as martial arts
training. Under this topic, recreational activities are grouped into health optimizing activities----
swimming, hiking, defending oneself, and engaging in fun activities that relieve stress.

Below are the four topics under recreation:

II. Proper Etiquette and safety in the Use of Facilities and Equipment
The importance of proper etiquette and safety the use of facilities and equipment is
important in the conduct of physical activities. The safety of the students, as well as the
preservation of school resources, is addressed through proper practices and procedures.

When engaged in training and exercise, a lot of the activities make use of the school
facilities and equipment. Guidelines must be followed in order to allow everyone for a fair,
orderly, maximal use, safe usage, avoid equipment's hugging, lessen chaotic movement, and
prevent possible accidents.

1. Take care in using facilities and equipment


2. Only use equipment that you already known how to use.
3. Be alert and aware the training area
4. In performing exercises and movement in general, practice good form first.
5. Bring back all equipment in place after use
6. Do not hug the equipment
7. Return the equipment properly, or leave the venue clean
8. check yourself- practice proper hygiene and clean
9. move on the double, do not loiter around the venue or hang on the equipment doing
nothing
10. Remember to be nice, as a general rule.

III. Warm up, Stretching, and Cooldown Routine.

Warm up, Stretching, and Cooldown Routine are important parts of exercise sessions.
These are done to avoid injuries and to prepare the muscles and joints for physical activity.
Proper warm up and stretching routine must be performed prior to physical activity. A cool
down routine is done after a session or a series of physical activities.

Warm up is to warm the body up with light exercises and movement to increase blood
flow to the muscles, increase sensitivity to nerve receptors, and increase the rate of delivery of
oxygen. Stretching is performed in order to maintain or increase flexibility. Cool down is done
to lower down the blood flow to the muscle and to slowly relax the body from exercise.
