– Analysis: From the graph it can be concluded that BALCO has two major
Bharat Aluminum Company limited produce approx 3.5LAC ton of aluminum P.A.
Aluminum is supposed to be second most abundant metal after iron. Being highly
active, the extraction of aluminum from bauxite ore is tedious &is obtained after the
series of process. Aluminum is extracted from bauxite ore KORBA Aluminum project
requires bauxite of 5LACS tons per yr. This requirement from the mines that are
found in PHUTHAPAHAR mines (KORBA District) AMBIKAPUR mines
(SURGUJADISTRICT) of CG bauxite is supplied to industry with help of railway wagons
&on trucks. Alumina is obtained from electrolysis process. This process has an
excessive intake of power, to meet the requirement; KORBA aluminum project
established a captive power plant of 270mw called BCPP (BALCO captive power
plant) BCPP Supplies Power to BALCO Industries to the Three Main Divisions As:
Alumina plant 10 mw
Smelter 200 mw
Fabrication 4 to 5 mw.
Bharat Aluminum Company ltd has been closely associated with Indian aluminum
industry. The company is currently the member of Vedanta resource, a London base
metals &mining major with aluminum, copper &zinc operation in UK Indian
&Australia to take advantage of the growing demand of aluminum in India &across
the world, BALCO has undertaken an expansion project. Under the project BALCO
captive power plant is setting up a 245,000TPA aluminum smelter along with a
540mw coal based captive power plant at its existing sites at KORBA. Expansion at
the existing sites has resulted in lower project and better project control as
investment of resources in development of the support of infrastructure like colony,
school, hospital, approach roads etc. was not required.
