Feedback

There are about 500 customers being fed through this tower and it is constantly running 40-50 Mbps. We also have
about a dozen corporate customers that have 5/5 or 10/10 type of connections with extremely low latency
requirements. The LigoWave RapidFire PtP provides latency sensitive content to our enterprise customers. We have had
very low latency from point to point for the last month and there has been no difference in the performance we were
getting on the Licensed Microwave that we disabled to do the testing.

Additional information about

lightning and installation

• More than 2,000 thunderstorms occur

throughout the world at any given 9me.
They produce about 40-50 lightning flashes
per second.

• Towers are struck by lightning more oCen than

any other buildings.

• Any lightning strike can destroy a radio

system.

• Proper grounding reduces the probability of

damage.

Copyright ©2016 LigoWave

How to reduce the risk of damage?

What should be considered when installing

equipment:

1. Installation place
2. Device grounding
3. Cable grounding
4. Tower grounding

Copyright ©2016 LigoWave

Installation place

• Principle: draw an imaginary sphere ~50m

(144C) over the structure. Anything touched

by the sphere could be hit by lightning (Zone
A).

• All the space under the sphere is considered

to be in the protec9on zone (Zone B).

• Zone A (NOT safe): In this zone a direct

ligh9ng strike is possible. It is not
recommended to mount the device in this
zone.

• Zone B (safe): In this zone, direct lightning

strikes are s9ll possible, but moun9ng in this
zone significantly reduces this possibility.

Copyright ©2016 LigoWave

Tips for Installation place

1. An antenna should not be placed at the top of the

mast. Keep it below from the top by at least the same
distance as the height of the antenna.

2. Do not install antenna above 35m(100C) from the

tower base if possible.

3. If equipment must be mounted higher than 35m (100C)

make sure the tower has radial grounds spaced along it.

Copyright ©2016 LigoWave

Tower grounding
• Guyed towers have lower ground
resistance and have enhanced
transient response.

• Another solu9on is to use radials,

which also reduce ground resistance.

Frequency planning

1. Run Site survey and Spectrum analyzer in each loca9on points

2. Consider channel size according to throughput demand:

• 80 MHz - 700 Mbps
• 40 MHz - 320 Mbps
• 20 MHz - 138 Mbps
• 10 MHz - 70 Mbps
• 5 MHz - 35 Mbps

3. If possible, avoid DFS channels 5.600 - 5.650 GHz (CAC = 10 min)
