4.2 SELF-HELP GROUPS

1. There has been written testament to the work done by the trust among the women of
NGO, they felt respected in their society. They felt that this was a golden opportunity
for them to showcase their talent. The women now had started encouraging their
relatives, friends to join in this cause and help themselves to improve the state of
living of their families and the society.
2. The idea behind the forming of self-help groups was to bring forward women from
different backgrounds and unearth the talents and use it for the growth of the
underprivileged community.
3. The funding for the NGO were sourced majorly from the university, funds were also
received from people acting as beneficiaries. So, the criteria which were used are;
a. The number of people forming a self-help group
b. The type of product they want to produce.
c. The total funds and the equipment’s that will be required for them.

Once these pre-requisites are fulfilled the approval is given for the group to start them

4. Overall performance of the groups was being kept in the centers of every village.
There was gap here as there was no proper reporting framework maintained by the
offices.
5. Overall performance of the groups was being kept in the centers of every village.
There was gap here as there was no proper reporting framework maintained by the
offices.

The gaps in the process mentioned were to be fulfilled. A suggestion for developing a
reporting framework was suggested to improve the efficiency of the work done.

REPORTING FRAMEWORK

1. An idea of overall database creation was suggested to the trust, since majority of the

management had already a system for maintaining the books of accounts, and in

in the coming period.
3. A training on Tally was provided to the managers and accountable person.
4. Till present time, using Google Sheets an additional book of accounts was prepared as
a prototype for the management’s use.
CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION
From the overall experience at the NGO, it is certain that potential of Self-Help Groups is
quite high but only requires proper channelization. Marketplace Literacy Project is one such
institution which aims at creating awareness among the under-privileged sections of society.
In order to develop high operational efficiencies, it is important for the NGO to be systematic
and automated in its approach. Even SHG-side dynamics can be made efficient if proper
tracking mechanism comes into picture. Therefore, the idea of developing a reporting
framework facilitates the working of both institution and SHGs.

Furthermore, the development of Books of Accounts can be enhanced which would result in
better reporting mechanism and also will help in raising funds. They will have proper
knowledge about the funds invested and the left over they can utilize further. Moreover, a
proper accounting system will give them more transparency in work and will help to raise
more funds from donors by showing transparency in transactions.
