International Holocaust Remembrance Day
International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Holocaust
Remembrance Day
27th JANUARY
• Today we celebrate “International Holocaust Remembrance Day”.
• Anyone who has ever been to Auschwitz/Birknau is reduced to absolute silence for we
can only imagine the horrors that took place there.
• The questions that kept drumming in my mind were: “Why so much hatred?; “How can
any human being practise such acts of cruelty on another?”
• Every year, the survivors return to Auschwitz/Birknau so that we do not forget the
Holocaust, so that future generations do not have to ever live through such attrocities.
• I have been there and I will never forget...
• As a teacher, I will do my utmost to remind students that these crimes against humanity
actually took place (they are not fiction or fabrication of a fertile imagination).
• We have an obligation to honour all those who lost their lives in the Holocaust, millions
who were unable to fulfil their potential.
• We have to fight against all forms of intolerance and hatred. Only by doing so can we
avoid similar acts of inhumanity.
