Assessment of Disaster Risk Reduction for Volcanic Activity of The Residents of

Cabucgayan Biliran.

Changes in the incidence and effect of dangerous natural disasters such as flood landslides,

fires, quakes, and volcanic eruption have been seen in the world in recent years. A great deal of

loss, injury, and damage has been experienced during these disasters and by teaching the people,

the rate of loss and damage can be reduced and in some cases completely prevented. Recently on

the 12th day of January 2020, the Taal Volcano of Batangas Philippines erupted 43 years after its

previous eruption in 1977 and the province was declared under state if calamity ordering the

In relation to this, Biliran Island faces lots of natural disasters such as typhoon, earthquake

and has 13 inactive volcano and one active volcano which is the Mt. Suiro in Cabucgayan Biliran

that erupted last 1939. To prevent the huge devastation and to become disaster-resistant

community, the residents are aware about what they will do before, during and after the occurrence

of the disaster. The research was done to determine the assessment on disaster risk reduction for

volcanic activity of the residents of Cabucgayan Biliran.

The study focuses on assessing the disaster risk reduction for volcanic activity of the

residents of Cabucgayan Biliran specifically to the residents living near Mt. Suiro. Particularly,

the residents of Cabucgayan Biliran before, during and after volcanic activity?

This study was conducted to provide useful information for the entire Filipino people,

especially for those who live near active volcanoes. The results of this study will help local
government be more prepared during this kind of natural disaster. Moreover, the researchers would

attempt to see how beneficial this study to the following: (1) Filipino Family. The study might

help the Filipino family to assess themselves on their disaster preparedness before, during and after

volcanic activity (2) Education Sector. This will widen the awareness of the education sector

regarding on how to be ready during any volcanic activity and (3) Civil Society, this study could
