INTRODUCTION

Engine valves are used in engines to allow air or air-fuel mixture to


enter into the cylinder (through inlet valve) and also to push out
exhaust gases (through exhaust valve).
Poppet valve system ,pneumatic/hydraulic system,electromagnetic
systems were used in valve operation.
Piston-Valve collision is a major problem identified in above systems
which is expected to solve by using Stepping Valve System in this
work.

STEPPING VALVE DESIGN

Objectives: friction-less valve lift-off, seamless valve state change and


gentle sitting.
Stepping valves rotates at 90 degrees to the motion of piston avoiding
ay possible interaction with piston.
The stepping valve is designed using an axial flux motor concept.A
coreless, radial actuator BLDC motor principle has been chosen for
this design.
System consists of two movements :(a)Valve Lift-off action (b)Valve
state change.

The valve will change state following a change in the Otto Cycle state.
The valve has to lift downwards to avoid friction with seating by
energizing stator.
The valve should have a instant take-off and along with this
valve-state change should also occur.
Valve state change is in accordance with the Otto cycle.
After each valve state the coil is de-energized gradually to be
attracted by the soft iron.
