Strengths and Weaknesses: Instruction Document

Personal Strengths and Weaknesses Activity

Standard 9: Explore how related student organizations are integral parts of career and technology educations
courses.

Purpose: To identify your personal strengths and weaknesses.

Instructions:
Now that we have been in school for several weeks, you know what areas in your academic
life that you need to continue to work hard in or to improve in. However, in your personal life
what are your strengths? Are you dependable? Reliable? Are you creative? Do you have a
quiet but strong personality?
On a blank word document, create a numbered list of 5 of your personal strengths. Write a
200-word summary on why you think the listed reasons are your strengths and describe how
possessing these strengths benefit you daily.
Now think about your weaknesses and List ONE personal weakness. Write a 100-word
summary on what you can do to overcome that weakness.
On your document, include a header with your name and the date.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths:
1. Honesty
2. Creative
3. Outgoing
4. Diligent
5. Organized
I believe that by having these strengths listed above, makes me a dependable and reliable person.
Honesty allows me to be trusted by my employers to do certain tasks. Creativity allows me to think
outside of the box and sets me apart from other people. It can help me come up with ideas that others
could not. Creativity allows me to brainstorm ideas I wouldn’t have thought of, especially when I’m stuck.
Being outgoing allows me to communicate well with others in a workspace. It allows me to be
comfortable when interacting with other people. I can help other people who are shy, get out of their
comfort zone and be open to other people around them. Diligence makes me motivated to do my work
with accuracy and efficiency. It helps with my work effort and shows how persistent I am with my job.
Lastly, by staying organized I can complete my work faster by knowing where everything is. Organization is
the key to staying on track. By keeping important files or documents in a specific place, you can complete
your work faster than you normally would if you were unorganized. These key traits allow me to be the
worker I am today.
Weaknesses:

1. Being too honest

I believe I can be too honest when talking others. I tell people the complete truth when talking to them
whether it’s good or bad, but I believe that’s what a true friend does. I can often find myself coming across as
too blunt, which could sometimes hurt someone’s feelings, when I am not meaning to. Honesty is very helpful
when gaining trust with employers and other people, but if you tell everything how it is, it can come across
rude and disrespectful. I should try to be more positive about my honesty towards other people. I should try
and help other people with their wrongs, than telling them what to do.

Setting Goals: Student Work Sample

Lauren Cates 9/12/2019

1. To end my 1st semester of 10th grade with all A’s
To achieve this goal, I am going to study more, and study more frequently. I also want
to have more of an organizational structure. I want to either get an planner or utilize my
phone calendar to the fullest. I also want to be more clean and I feel like that would help
me to achieve my goal. I also want to stop slacking and procrastinating as hard as I do
currently. I feel like limiting my procrastination will allow me to have less stress and
possibly more time to extracurricular activities and general time to unwind and enjoy
myself.
2. To be an important part/person in a club
I have somewhat of a plan already to achieve this goal. My 2 nd period teacher, Mrs.
Hicks, is starting a history club and asked some kids in our class to write a small
paragraph on why she should choose them. She is going to choose 4 sophomores and
has already expressed that she trusts me. When she was out on injury, she let the sub
know that I was a trustworthy person in the class and that if the sub had any questions
that they could ask me. So im currently thinking that if I write a good summary on why
she should choose me that I can get chosen and become an officer in the History Club.
3. To Get my driver’s license
There isn’t much that is required of me to get my license. I have already finished my in-
car lessons for it, so now all that is left is for me to do is finish my online lessons.
However, there are only 6 hours of them so realistically it will not take much time.
However, there are more things to do with driving that I still need to accomplish. My 3-
point turns and hairpin turns aren’t very good so I want to perfect those. I also want to
just get more comfortable behind the wheel in general.
4. Get my Microsoft excel certification
Getting my Microsoft excel certification might pose a fairly big challenge. I would have to
study on g Metrix, which the state of that is debatable, then I would have to study for a
good amount of time though. My first certification for Microsoft word, I barely passed,
and I do not want that to happen again. So, I want to study and prepare more because I
honestly never use excel that often, so it would be a little bit of an uphill battle. But
nonetheless, I really want to get my excel certification, and possibly more certifications
like the PowerPoint certification.
5. Exercise more.
I would like to exercise more just to stay in shape and stay healthy. Having a healthy
lifestyle is important in my family so I would like to try to be as healthy as I can and
exercising is a big part of that. So along with working out, I would like to eat better,
because as of now my diet is very bad. As of now I have a light exercise regimen, but I
would like to go out running, or ride my bike for an hour. There’s a lot of things I can do
to make my lifestyle better.

Brad Raffensperger
Secretary of State

Washington, DC 20520

Dear Mr. Raffensperger,

I am addressing you this afternoon concerning the FBLA club at my school, South Paulding High School. FBLA stands for
Future Business Leaders of America. I joined this club because part of my career will benefit from learning business
leader aspects that I may not learn in a traditional class, I wanted to join as many clubs as I was interested in, and I also
wanted a special cord for graduation. FBLA is an important student organization because, like I stated earlier, it gives
them chances outside of the standard classroom and allows them to develop more than just extra knowledge. They
develop beneficial relationships, what it means to be loyalty to your peers and school, and the experience of helping the
community.

Upon joining FBLA, students also get to compete in regional, state, and national competitions. These consist of students
showing off our knowledge in performance and presentation. Other events like Fall Rally, College & Career Fair, and
specifically for our chapter, Spartan Holiday. Those events usually involve other school chapters that all come together.
A total of 230,000 people has taken advantage of these opportunities by becoming members. Strengthening our
confidence, as students, in ourselves and our leadership is what we believe is most important. Lastly, it would be truly
appreciated if you were to join my chapter and I in an upcoming event. You are welcome you come to our Reality Fair on
October 3rd, located at South Paulding High School. We would even enjoy your presence at one of our meeting which
occur every 1st Friday of the month. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Have a wonderful day.

Sincerely,
I’ona Freeman
