Problem 1: Influence of Cracked Size of Old Concrete Pavement on Asphalt Overlay Stress in Barangay
Canlapwas Purok 4 and 5

Why is it a problem?:

Road distresses disturb and adversely affect the traffic flow and traffic safety leading to poor
performance of the road. They also cause an increase in fuel costs, result in time delay and prove
troublesome for every road user. Also, the distresses whether of a smaller or larger scale are a nuisance
to the road users and may prove hazardous if neglected for a long period as their condition worsens
with time.

What are the evidences that the problem exist?

The crack problem is everywhere. It’s found on our city streets, our nation’s interstates, rural
highways, and even suburban roads are susceptible to this problem.

What do you expected to find out if you pursue this study, what is the relevance of the said study to
your field?

1. To determine the typical failures of flexible pavement in Catbalogan City especially in Canlapwas
Purok 4 and 5.
2. To review the maintenance procedure practice

How do you intend to answer the problem (initial methods)?

1. By gathering data in the means of interviewing LGU offices like Engineering Department.
2. And having a survey to the drivers who drive in Canlapwas Purok 4 and 5.

Problem 2: Reducing Shrinkage Cracking Risk in Pavement Cement in Brgy. Maulong, Catbalogan City

Why is it a problem?:

1. Road accidents are caused by more than one factor such as the accident location, the
road condition inclusive of road types and surface condition, driver’s behavior and also
weather condition. Pavement conditions can be classified into different category namely
mild, moderate and severe pavement conditions. Examples of poor pavement conditions
are rutting, depression, polished surface, unevenness and potholes.
2. It can cause traffic, and a troublesome to the commuters.
What are the evidences that the problem exist?
1. Cases of Road accidents is reported in Maulong due to Cracks in pavement cement.
2. Holes and Big cracks can be seen in that area.

What do you expected to find out if you pursue this study, what is the relevance of the said study to
your field?
To find out what is the main cause of cracks in pavements of Brgy. Maulong.

How do you intend to answer the problem (initial methods)?


Through the help of DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) and the 6 seater drivers
by having an interview.

Problem 3: Construction and Improvement of Drainage and Waste Water network in Catbalogan, City

Why is it a problem?
Constructing drainage improperly caused puddling, pooling, saturated soil, and even undirected
downspout water that can destroy landscaping and turn a road into a swamp. It creates moisture and
mold problems and can damage roads and other structures.

What are the evidences that the problem exist?


As a Catbaloganon, we witness and experienced floods in the streets when there’s heavy rain.

What do you expected to find out if you pursue this study, what is the relevance of the said study to
your field?
1. To learn some strategies on how to construct or build a drainage without causing that said
problems.
2. To find out what causing the floods in the city.

How do you intend to answer the problem (initial methods)?


First, we must gather data on how and why the drainage gets damage. Next, ask help to those
professional specialized engineer about this kind of matter and possible solutions. Then, try to adapt the
international way or process on constructing proper drainage.
