February 2020
As we live with Jesus and wonder about his ministry on Sundays this month, each day we are moving one day
closer to the liturgical (read church) season of Lent. Lent is a season each year when we live with Jesus on his way
to the cross. We reflect on the ways that we are far from God in our lives and the ways in which we are complicit
in the sins of the world. In this season, we confess, we repent, we receive the body and blood of Jesus in com-
munion and we are granted forgiveness simply because our God is merciful. During Lent, our deep need for
God’s grace comes front and center – and that need is met with a savior. What a deal.
I was recently asked by one of our confirmation students about grace: “If we don’t have to do anything to get to
heaven,” this student wondered, “why are we supposed to go to church?” This is the age old question isn’t it?
Churches have turned attendance into our good works, sometimes marking a good Christian simply by their place
in the pews. But the truth of the matter lives in our hearts. As recipients of God’s amazing grace, we are enlivened
to share that grace with others. We “come to church” to worship God, not because we need to earn God’s favor,
but because we know how much we are in need of God’s presence and forgiveness.
This Lenten season, I have been feeling a nudge for us as a congregation- a call to be outward facing and serve in
response to God’s gift of grace to us. Each year, ELCA World Hunger, provides resources for congregations with
the goal of educating about hunger issues and raising money to feed people around the world. For Lenten worship
services this year, Peace will collect a special “Hunger” offering that will be split between the Grant County Food
Shelf and ELCA World Hunger after Easter. The council will decide on a congregational goal in early February
and also designate matching funds! Stay tuned J This is God’s story and our story…
Here are some figures to consider as you pray about how you and your family might offer from what you have this
Lent:
$2 per day is more than what 10% of people around the globe live on. An individual gift of this amount can
help those facing hunger and poverty, and setting it aside is a powerful reminder of what our neighbors
face.
$200 is enough to provide a community with critical resources needed to significantly reduce food insecurity,
such as agricultural tools, supplies and training.
$5,000-6,000 is the amount needed to supply the Grant County Food Shelf for one month.

Two Readers Needed
I’ve had three wonderful women come forward to help me provide
meaningful worship and connection to God during our Lenten Worship.
We have two more spots to fill: March 18 and March 25.
Responsibilities include: 1) Select a chapter from a book or a devotion
that is meaningful to you. 2) Share the reading with me (Eliza) so I can help select scripture for
the service. 3). Work with me to prepare a few question/answers to share after the reading.
Thank you for considering! Our worship isn’t possible without you!

Your partner in Christ, Pastor Eliza

Men’s Breakfast Report-Jeff Dreier
Our men’s breakfast group continues to have great attendance, averaging about
13 guys each Thursday morning for good fellowship and Lutheran Light
devotions. We have been meeting since Pr. Ruffatto started it back in 1996, from
November thru March. Since I have not been good about doing an annual
report, I have included what donations we have been able to do with funds we
have raised with our annual Meatball Supper, and weekly meal donations. This
year we have been helping out on several Friday mornings with the Breakfast
Club that Pr. Eliza and her group have put together, and it has been quite fun for
all. We plan to continue to help as needed throughout the remainder of the
school year. We currently have a fund balance of $3,077.28. Here are the
donations since 2017

3/2/17 Peace Lutheran Church – Roof repairs $2,000.00
