Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 3

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
a. solve 2-digit by 1-digit number without remainder;
b. perform the operation of division;
c. appreciate the value of sharing in one’s own life.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Dividing Two Digit by One Digit Number Without Remainder.
B. Textbook: Math For Life 3 pages 198 – 200
C. Materials: Instructional Materials, PowerPoint Presentation, Polvoron.
D. Strategies: Cooperative Learning/Games
E. Values Integration: Pupils will learn that, Life is not about making others happy. Life is about
sharing your happiness with others.

III. LEARNING TASKS/PROCEDURE:

Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Opening Activities:
1. Greetings
Good afternoon class! Good afternoon Ma’am!

2. Opening Prayer

Georgina kindly lead us a prayer? Let us bow our head and let us pray….

Before you take your seat kindly

arrange your chairs.

3. Checking of Attendance

Who is absent for today? No one is absent Ma’am!

B. Review and motivation (Game)

Let’s have a game!

I need 5 representatives from each group. I
have here a basic division equation on the
board. All you have to do is to give the correct
answer.
Form a line, the first pupil in the line will
answer first, followed by the second and up to
the last member.
The fastest group who finish the task will be
the winner.

Is that clear? Yes, Ma’am!

28 ÷ 7 = 28 ÷ 7 = 4

36 ÷ 6 = 36 ÷ 6 = 6

25 ÷ 5 = 25 ÷ 5 = 5

20 ÷ 4 = 20 ÷ 4 = 5

15 ÷ 3 = 15 ÷ 3 = 5

Group___ is finish, so group ___ is the winner.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

What occasion is nearly coming? Christmas

Why do we celebrate Christmas? We celebrate Christmas because it is the

birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Very Good!

What do we do in Christmas? We share gifts/ it’s gift giving time!

Now class, I am going to tell a story.

So listen and behave well, is that clear class? Yes, Ma’am!

Thank you!

(The teacher will tell a story about Santa

Claus)

Santa Claus lives in a nice city called Santa

Claus Alar. Every day he works hard, in
wrapping gifts for children.
Santa Claus is very generous. He loves to
share. He looks for good children all over the
land. He always sure to have with him a
bundle of toys. For the good little girls and
little boys.
One day when Santa Claus is walking along the
street he saw 3 children, but he has only 57
candies left in his bag. So, Santa Claus divides
the candies equally to the children. Santa
Claus was very happy to see the smile on the
face of the children.
D. Development of the Lesson

Who are the characters in the story? The characters in the story are Santa Claus and
the children.
What can you say about Santa Claus? He is very generous and kind.

For you class, is it important to share? Why? Yes, because when we share we can make
people happy.
Now class Santa has a problem he wants to
find out the total amount of candies did each
child receive.

Do you want to help him? Yes, teacher.

(The teacher will present again the word

problem.)

Santa Claus has 57 candies. He divides it

equally to the 3 children. Santa Claus wants to
find out, how many candies did each child
receive in all?

What is the problem of Santa Claus? He wants to find out, how many candies did
each child receives in all?

Based on the problem, what are given? 57 candies and 3 children

What is the number to be divided? 57

How about the number that will be divided to

57? 3

What do you think is the operation to be used

in the given problem? Division

Why do you think we need to use division as

our operation? We need to use division because we need to
divide the candies equally.
Correct!

How do we write the sign in division?

(The teacher will call a pupil.) (The pupil will draw the sign on the board.)
÷
Very good!

To easily solve the problem, we need to follow

these Steps in Dividing 2-digit numbers by a 1-
digit number.

The Steps in Dividing 2-Digit Numbers by a 1-

Digit Number without remainder are:
“D – M – S – B “
( Daddy – Mommy – Sister – Brother )
÷ x - bring down

Again class, what are given?

Now class, we need to use this √0 division

sign in order for us to easily solve the problem.

So, we write the equation like this.

3 √57

What is the first step in the dividing 2-digit

numbers by a 1-digit number? Step 1 Daddy
(Divide) the dividend by the divisor
What digit is in the tens place? 5

What is the divisor? 3

Can we divide 5 to 3? Yes, Ma’am!

Very Good!

Now let’s us divide 5 to 3 is equal to

what ______? 1
3√57

What is the quotient? 1

Very Good!

So now class, we need to multiply 1 times 3 1

equals _____. 3√57

What is the next step? STEP 2 Mommy

(Multiply) the answer with the divisor

What is the quotient? 1

So now class, we need to multiply 1 times 3 1
equals _____.
3√56
- 3____

What is the third step? STEP 3 Sister

(Subtract)

We need to subtract 5 to 3.
1
3√57
- 3____
2

What will be the answer? 2

Class, what is the step 4? STEP 4 Brother

(Bring down) the ones digit.

What digit is in the ones place? 7

Let us bring down the ones digit. 1

3√57
- 3____
27

What is the last step?

STEP 5 Repeat the steps from 1,2,3

Now let us it this again.

17
3√57
- 3____
27
- 27___
0
(The Teacher will give another examples)

E. Drill

I have here an envelope. Each envelope has an

activity card and the materials that you will
use in your group activity. All you have to do
is to analyze the given problem and find its
quotient. The leader of the group will present
their work. I will give you 3 minutes to finish
your work.

Activity Card

Group 1
Rudolph bakes 2 pies a day. How many days
will it take him to bake 26 pies?

Activity Card

Group 2
The 3 elves are roasting 36 ears of corn. How
many ears of corn will each elf get?
F. Generalization

What are the steps in dividing 2 digit numbers

by a 1-digit number without remainder? “D – M – S – B “
( Daddy – Mommy – Sister – Brother )
÷ x - bring down

Very Good!

G. Valuing
Why is it important to share what you
have to others? The students will give ideas.

IV. Evaluation

Now, let’s have a game! It is boys vs. Girls.

The game is called “EAT ME FIRST”.

I need 5 representatives from the boys and Directions: Find the Quotient
girls.
You’re going to eat first the Polvoron in order 1. 2/26
for you to answer the given division equation 2. 3/36
on the board. 3. 4/48
The first pupil in the line will answer first 4. 5/ 65
follow by the last member. 5. 6/ 96
The group who will finish first and got the
correct answers will be the winner.

Is that clear class? Yes, Ma’am!

V. Assignment
Directions: Find the quotient:
1. 9/ 99
2. 3 /60
3. 5 /55
4. 6/66
5. 2/46
