At four I was an Arabian wizard. I could make myself invisible by drinking a glass of milk a certain way.
But n now I am mostly at the window watching the late afternoon light. This shows us that growing up
means that your life is changing.

Growing up requires learning to look at the past with new perspective. The Story is about the boy
growing up without dad.

We shared a game. Knock Knock. Until that day when the knock never came and my momma takes me
on a ride past corn fields on this never ending highway ‘til we reach a place of high rusty gates. This
shows us about. And for years he has never said a word. And so twenty-five years later, I write these
words for the little boy in me who still awaits his papa’s knock.

Growing up is like little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year inside the next one. The
story is about a little girl and her birthday. The text is about a little girl and how she feels when she
becomes eleven. When you wake up on your eleventh birthday you expect to feel eleven, but you don’t.
You open your eyes and everything is just like yesterday. And you don’t feel like you’re still ten. And you
are – underneath the year that makes you eleven. Like some days you might say something stupid, and
that’s the part of you that’s still ten. Or maybe some days you might need to sit on your mama’s lap
because you’re scared, and that’s the part of you that’s five. And maybe one day when you’re all grown
up maybe you will need to cry like if you’re three, and that’s okay. That’s what I tell Mama when she’s
sad and needs to cry. Maybe she’s feeling three.

This shows us that every part of your life is still in you. When you grow up you don’t feel or act your age.
The way you grow up is like little wooden dolls that fit one inside the other, each year is inside the next
one. Even adults act like they are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6…

What we learned about growing up is that growing up means to grow mentally and physically. It also
means to becoming smarter, to keep going even when life is hard, to look at the past with new
perspective, learning to be independent. This topic is important because we are kids and we must know
to overcome all the difficulties in the life. By studying what it means to grow up, we can learn what we
have to do to be successful.
