Report on Fun with Maths

The key to teaching basic maths skills which the students can apply and
remember long-term, is to use several teaching strategies like repetition, testing,
pair-work, manipulative tools and maths games.
Out of these, maths games makes learning fun and easy for students. Math
games provides opportunities to make the lesson interesting and encouragers
students to remember the concepts. Games can vary depending on the concepts
taught. Teachers can use computer games or class games for particular skills to
make the lesson fun.
Keeping the research question in mind as to how Maths is apparent in our daily
lives, we interviewed Ms. Pinaaz, Secondary maths teacher of JBCN. She
emphasized that maths is present everywhere in our lives while shopping,
buying grocery, salary calculation, bank work, etc. Understanding the broad
purview of usage of mathematics in our life and the importance of
understanding the concepts by the learners, she makes maths learning fun for
the learners through activities, real life experiences, mathematical instruments
and videos.
Through the research we realised that Maths skills are an important part of life
and help the students for future growth.
Reflection :
Being a part of Eumind has been an enriching experience for both learners and
teachers. We gained a lot of information from Ms. Pinaaz, our school’s Maths
teacher who threw light on ways in which maths can be made fun in the
classroom. As Maths is taught in practical and hands-on ways, the learners can
easily carry this learning outside the classroom.
Eumind provides new and different approaches to learning, thereby helping the
learners broaden their understanding of the world around them and gradually
develop as global citizens.
Collaborating as a group helped us understand each other strengths and various
ways in which the team members could contribute to the group work. Sharing of
ideas and experiences within the group helped us maximize our knowledge and
learning. Focussing on a common goal helped us work enthusiastically as a
team.
